Check the Verizon modem/router to see if it broadcast wireless N ? You can see it on the modem's label, or get the model number then go to Verizon website to check. If it's already has Wireless N , then there is not thing much more you need to do, even hooking up Netgear router, the best WIFI signal it broadcast is still wireless N. and since your Verizon Modem has build-in router, I believe it's by default also configured as DHCP , which assigned IP Address to any Systems/Devices that connected . Now if you connect Netgear router to it, then Netgear roter also try to assign IP to your network and that will cause IP conflict Unless you change the subnet, or Bridge the Verizon Modem to Netgear, then Netgear will be the only one assign IP address to all of your devices. In short , why go all the trouble if Verizon modem/router already has wireless N?
