Anyone else take in the Sevens this weekend?

I admit that I'm more partial to American football (I played and have officiated it for many years) but a good friend of mine got me into going to the Sevens in San Diego three years ago.

There seemed to be some more parity this year rather than the NZ dominating as they did last year. It was good to see the USA put on their best showing ever. And, of course, hats off to Argentina for controlling England and the USA to win the Cup.

Hats off to iRB for pulling off a great event and I hope to see many of you here next year.

Side Observation: To show it was a truly international event, a fellow behind me was wearing a Scotland T-shirt, put on a Mexican sombrero, was chanting U-S-A and should have watched his French (an American term meaning he was cursing a lot).

Very true. I find the 80minute version of the game much more enthralling (I live in South Africa and grew up with rugby) but I'm very excited to see how sevens rugby has grown in the last few years.

the IRB has done well in taking games to different countries and this has helped to spread the love for the game. The fans also want more action and faster games so the sevens game is idieal for drawing a crowd and the popularity of the Dubai, George, in fact all the legs of the series is proof of that.

Just a comment to the guy who says the game is boring now that Fiji are losing. The fact that Fiji can't keep up with the game is their own fault. I love the fact that the series is so competitive. NZ, SA, Aus, ENg, Argentina, Kenya and even Fiji have a chance of winning a tournament or the series!

I didn;t go but I did watch every game on TV and it was great. Now the San Diego supporters just need to get with the dressing up mode and have a party!

Its great that the game goes all around the world.

I'm sad for Fiji as its all political and that just can't happen in sport. Fiji is trying to be a Samoa and only pick players who live in their country. Most of the top Fiji players are overseas earning money and that should not mean they can't play in the 7s. If you wanna win you gotta have your best players there - NZ is a definite example of that.

I don;t know how Gordon Tietjens puts out a great team yr after yr when every yr his top players are stolen by Super 14 contracts. Can;t blame the players for securing their future

Titch is such a good coach. I would like to see any 15s coach in the world achieve what he does every yr with a new squad. The 15s coaches rarely lose 5 playmakers in a season
