They have the entire depth and area of the Atlantic ocean, so how did the submarines collide?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7892294.stm

Astonishing! Any navigators got plausible explanation for this episode, other than they were all on their Nintendos at the time?

Update:

*Edit* Apparently, they both had anti-sonar cloaking. Douglas Adams would have loved this!

LOL trying to think but the Nintendo has my bet!

Altho' saying that the crew could have been playing hide and seek? Maybe twister, or the old time favourite give us a clue..

    Baffling lol!!

depths of the ocean. it's really cool to see all the beautiful fishes. While it's quit scary and boring to explore the galaxy. Plus, imagine meeting an alien.

It would have been funny to see the captains surfacing and exchanging insurance details.

Good job it wasn't a Trafalgar class sub, the UK and France could be just ash now.

    - it's really dark down there

    - they were playing chicken and both swerved the same way

Seriously, though, the main tactical advantage of a nuclear submarine is that it's really really hard to detect.

If space shuttles can collide in the vastness of space, anything is possible! Love the cloaking angle though.
