Why do atheists post and answer questions on Y!A Religion and Spirituality?

I have been "hanging out" on this forum for a few days and was wondering why atheists post and answer questions here. They are not religious in the broad sense of the term and they certainly are not spiritual. They even go as far as to post questions as christians only to pick a best answer to make fun of the respondent. Some atheist troll did it to me. I realize anyone can join in but they seem to do it only for the sake of childish behavior and criticism of believers. I really wish they would post questions and answers on a more appropriate site. Some Pop and Rock morons do the same thing on the Classical forum by posting questions that are sarcastic against classical music.

Atheists should learn tolerance and maybe they would be taken more serious and be more widely accepted.

Update:

To the Canuck Atheist-Thanks for the evidence to my question.

Update 2:

To Terry W-It is spelled defensive. Once again evidence which supports my question.

Update 3:

Thanks Ikari for the only intelligent response to my question.

There are just as many religious trolls as atheist trolls unfortunately. However, there are atheists on here who are genuinely interested in what some of the religious people have to say in answer to our questions. I'm here because I am interested in the nature of why people believe what they do, even though I don't.

The forum here is not exclusively for religious and spiritual people, it is for people who are interested in religion and spirituality.

You can't judge the whole group based on the worst members. Unfortunately trolls on both sides have to be tolerated.

Seriously dude, this question has been asked like a thousand times by now. You could just type into the Y!A search bar "why are atheists in the R&S section?" and I'm sure you'd find many responses.

Anyway, I somewhat agree with Ikari, but it's not just that. Some of us are here because religion has such a massive impact on basically everyone, and we feel that we should get to have a say. I think that every person who asks a question here should be able to get answers from a large variety of people with a variety of beliefs and attitudes, so that they can be more aware of what people think and make a better choice of what works for them.

"Atheists should learn tolerance and maybe they would be taken more serious and be more widely accepted."

I'm sorry but I really can't stand generalisation, so next time could you address your complaints only to the people who are doing the wrong thing, instead of insulting me and many others because we share a belief that those people hold. Many buddhists are atheists, would you like to tell me they're intolerant? By attacking atheists like this you're only doing the very thing you're complaining about.

Because this is an open forum discussing religion and spirituality. I have, and am entitled to, express my opinions on religion and spirituality. Maybe you can solicit Yahoo! Answers to make a Christian only section and require passwords that are given out only in churches.

This question comes up a couple times a day. I usually answer it like this:

Yeah, kick out the atheist! You can start by kicking us out of Yahoo! Answers... and what comes after that? You gonna kick them out of your town, your entire country maybe? And who comes after atheist? Some other religion, perhaps? How far does your intolerance of differing opinion go? I mean, why stop at Yahoo! Answers? Make the whole world just the way you want with no one to give you any differing opinion!

That is what you want, right? Everything just the way you expect it? Sorry, but that's not the way it works. I have a right to my opinion and you don't own the soapbox.

So sad to see such ignorance of simple dictionary terms!!

ATHEIST - someone who does not believe in a God – any God – not just the Christian one. But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs! They can follow any religion that does not have a god and there are a lot of those!!

Like BUDDHISM – Religious teaching from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and delusion (the cause of all suffering) man can attain perfect enlightenment!!

Add christians and muslims together and they amount to just under a third of the world population the majority of the rest is made up of atheists and religions without gods!! So they are in the majority here!!!

So now ask yourself why it is only Christians that get attacked and not the other religions?!!!!

Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted postings things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped being the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped demanding freedom of religion whilst they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them things might change!! !!!

If Christians rediscovered the god of love and forgiveness and put aside all those terrible human emotions things would definitely change!!!!

Why are Christians so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!!!!!!

As soon as Christians rediscover the loving god and start acting like it the problem will cease!!!!

This forum is not your personal one, so you have no control over who does what on it. You should learn some tolerance yourself before you tell anyone else to do it. Your "Do as I say, not as I do" is hardly inspiring. I'm sure that no atheists or intelligent Christians either care whether you take them seriously or not or whether you accept them or not. You seem to be a joke on here with your extreme rants that make no sense. Ikari must not be very bright if you say he is. You clearly exhibit no qualifications for judging who is intelligent. I imagine it's only someone pretending to agree with you to get ten points. I don't need points that badly, and I never will.

Why does someone have to believe in God in order to debate religion, especially when religion impacts the daily lives of religious and non religious alike? Who is to decide what is and isn't a valid point of view to discuss in this forum? If discussion of religion and spirituality is, at it's essence, a discussion about God then someone stating why they don't believe in God is a legitimate point of view. This is supposed to be a place where you get DIFFERENT perspectives.

And by tolerance do you mean questions such as "Is atheism a result of poor education?" Before you criticize another group of people for being intolerant, or lumping every member of that group into one basket, perhaps you should talk to your own group first. To not do so would be hypocritical.

This question is asked at least 20 or 30 times a day.

Please stop being so silly you can find all the answers in the previously asked questions.

This is no more insightful or less presumptuous than the first time this question was ever asked.

You will not cause a mass exodus of atheists from R&S with your stale mind numbingly boring questions.

If someone has a belief which, on the whole, limits and harms soceity, we will not sit idly by and allow it to go unquestioned.

An individual believes a crazy notion, they're ridiculed.

Ten people believe a crazy notion, they're ostrasized.

One hundred people believe a crazy notion, they're a cult.

Ten thousand people believe a crazy notion, they're a religion.

We treat the group, the religion, the same way we'd treat the individual.

Source(s): We are not the crazy ones.

Or we could be attracted to what drives human beings to their movements... faith is a huge using tension in lots of peoples lives, information what drives a guy or woman provides perception into that guy or woman... using your good judgment, have you ever examine books approximately atheists, do you have sufficient education to debate atheists? do you be attentive to each little thing regarding the subject count number of atheists? If no longer why are you discussing atheists?

Dont you think religion should be renamed as the fairytale section...how many times do we get asked this question?

Perhaps its Satans way of making your belief even more real, besides without non believers you would have no point to try and make
