The law says "no later than 11:59 pm" so stations can do it whenever. I would assume that most will wait until near midnight.

Only about 500 stations out of the roughly 1800 stations nationwide will go all digital tonight bringing the total to 681 stations that have shut down their analog transmitters. Congress moved the date to June 12 forcing stations to petition the FCC for shutdown on Feb 17. The FCC denied 123 of the requests citing "public interest". So, any analog signals still on the air after tonight will probably remain until June 12.

Here's a list of stations from the FCC web site. The stations that are transitioning before June are listed in red. Scroll down to find your city. http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/...

I hate to point this out, yet guy are you blind to the data. at the start, you're making connection with "moguls like Rogers" which leads me to have faith which you're Canadian, and as such the date Feb 19, 2009 has certainly no relevance to you (the analog to digital switchover date for Canada is in 2011). Secondly, very few human beings have a digital television and yet over 75% of all Rogers Cable subscribers are already receiving their television shows on a one hundred% digital sign. that's courtesy of the digital bins that have been hassle-free situation with the applications for over 2 years. those bins convert digital indicators to an analog (channel 3) sign with the intention that your previous television will stay clever long as quickly as they have pulled the plug on analog proclaims. base line is that your assertion that this "is going to rigidity certainly everyone to could pass out and purchase a sparkling television" isn't purely incorrect, that's a demonstration which you have certainly no clue what you're speaking approximately whilst it is composed of the digital switchover.

it WAS february.. I think the government voted to delay it to like mid-June or something. I think it needs to happen sooner than then though. Ugh
