A wise story from an old Indian Chief. Tell me what you think?

An old Cherokee Indian Chief was teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside of me," he said to his grandson. "It is a terrible fight between two wolves," he continued.

"One is evil- angry, envious, sorrowful, regretful, greedy, arrogant, self-pitying, guilt-ridden, resentful, lying, full of false pride, superiority and ego driven," the Chief continued to say.

Then the Chief pause and said, "The other wolf is good- joyful, peaceful, loving, hopeful, serene, humble, kind, empathetic, generous, truthful, compassionate, and faithful."

.

"The same fight is going on inside of you, grandson, and in every other person," said the Chief.

The grandson thought about this for a moment, turned to the Chief, and said, "But, grandfather, which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee replied, "The one that you feed."

I love your story, and will borrow it for my grandson. This is why Jesus talked about God and Salvation in story form all the time. There is more wisdom said in story form than all the preaching in the world.

    Great story!

We feed the good wolf by doing the good things such as:

    1. Being good and joyful every day of our life.

    2. Being peaceful, by doing things that bring peace and learning to ponder.

    3. Being loving instead of hateful at the moment of decision

    4. Seeing the glass half full and not half empty thus helping us to feel hopeful, serene, and generous

    5. Serving others everyday. Pray for opportunities to help others. It doesn't have to be big or hard. Sometimes a listening ear, a kind word, or a smile is really what is needed.

I love this too. It shows our free will, our choice to be good people. Try and be the best we can be every day. That means stepping out of our comfort zone!!!!!!!!!! Which I know is hard since I am not a very social butterfly lol. But I am always kind and open to any kind of person. Be humble dont judge. I love the message. Because it is not persay about religion if your not religious, it puts you on the right path though. To being a great person and hopefully finding god in my view.

Well, this is very good advice.

    1 Thessalonians 4: 11 - 12

“..Make it YOUR aim to live quietly

and to mind YOUR own business and work with YOUR hands, just as we ordered YOU; so that YOU may be walking decently as regards people outside and not be needing anything”…

Do you want good relations with

    others, peace of mind, and,

most important of all, a good

    standing with God? Then

    follow the inspired counsel

of God’s Word: “Make it your

aim to live quietly and to

    mind your own business.”

    (1 Thessalonians 4:11)

    Show an interest in others,

but do so in a kindly,

    dignified way. Thus you

    will steer clear of malicious,

    harmful gossip.

Reminds me of the age old, angel and devil sitting on your shoulder.

Ways to feed the good wolf:

    Be generous.

    Be kind.

    Love thy neighbor.

    Forgive easily.

    Do not hold grudges.

    Do not judge others.

    Live to help other people.

Ways to feed the bad wold:

    Try a one-night stand. Don't call.

Make it rain at the local strip club.

    Hire a hooker.

Kick an old man in the balls.

Get really drunk and puke in a convertible.

    Try a new drug.

Go to a park and trip joggers as they pass by.

    Rob a bank.

    Pull the fire alarm.

Pee in the holy water at church.

In every situation or conversation, in every moment, we have the choice between joy and fear. Remember that, choose the joy and the evil wolf will starve to death. Always choose the high road. Let that guy pull out of the parking lot, let the little old lady with the two items get in front of you in the check-out line, never pass a person who is collecting for charity without acknowledging what they are doing, even if you have nothing to give. The list is endless and all you have to do is stay in the moment to find the opportunities.

Siyo I know folks like this story but its NOT Cherokee. Cherokee believe in harmony and balance. You need both "wolfs" to be a complete human being. Wado Jisdu

I love this story. I remember it from my great - grandma. She was very old and blind but could sure tell some stories. Now that I think about it, they all had purpose behind them.

The best way to feed that good wolf, is to practice his traits in daily life. This way you understand them better, learn to live them fully, and they far outweigh in strength the traits of the poor wolf.

There is a celtic folk type band based in Florida that sings a song about this very story. It's very well don, I suggest you check it out. The band is called Empty Hats (I have no affiliation, just enjoy their music and it fits the question)

Discipline yourself to do at least one act of kindness each day. (even if it is as simple as writing a note to someone to encourage them). Only read and listen to teachers who are meek and humble. Avoid all teachers who ask for money. Meditate 10 minutes per day. Visualize yourself smiling. Call on God, angels to send positive energy, healing, light, etc. to you
