Probably for much the same reason the British are mean to:

    1) Australians - they call us convicts, and they come here and complain about all the foreigners here, can you believe it! As if Australia were still their colony!

    2) New Zealanders - they make untoward comments about the New Zealanders and sheep.....

    3) South Africans - they STILL go on about the Apartheid

    4) French - they think the French are dirty and eat disgusting food.

    5) Polish - they think they are illegal immigrants

    6) Germans - they call them prejudiced (which is a complete joke....)

    7) Russians - again, they call them illegal immigrants

    8) Scottish - the British STILL won't let them have their own parliament, even after centuries...

    9) Africans - they think they are violent

    10) Indians - they think they smell bad and come from slums

    11) Americans - fat, lazy, loud....

Feel part of the group yet? :)

I have found most British people to be quite polite and rather fun. I am an American, the son of a Scotsman, and if there was ever a people to dislike the Brits, it should either be a Scot or an Irishman. Growing up, I spent at least one day per week playing soccer with foreigners, as it was not a well known game back then. The differences in our cultures explain much of how we perceive them as such, but when you get to know the people, you will find they are truly a fun loving bunch and make as much fun of themselves as the do others. It is almost a British comical cultural thing. They make fun of each others' favorite teams, much as we do, but their style of humor comes across a little "off" by our standards. So, just try to realize our cultural differences are what makes us see them as the "high and mighty, self-righteous assholes", (that and the fact that we beat them for our independence and many are still bitter about that.)

It is amazing how someone can know what 60 million people think, but of course this is the most moronic diatribe I've ever seen. Clearly, as already pointed out, this Petrice character is clearly shamefully uneducated. Poor Petrice - Do you realise your senseless rant is still marking you out as a bigoted imbecile after 7 years? And by the way, the British do not dislike any of those people, having a very much more mature attitude towards other nations and cultures, including Australians than you do from your position of ignorance. I have lived and worked in England, and people like you fill me with nothing but shame.

I think Americans are more mean to Brits! Americans are obsessed with being politically correct, they would never make fun of physical attributes of minorities, or prople from other countries. EXCEPT when it comes to Brits. Even on primetime American TV, they continually make remarks about British people s teeth! They somehow think it acceptable. BTW, I am American, and I agree Americans are loud, fat and wasteful.

I am married to a Brit. I think there are cultural reasons that they come across as "mean." I find, irl, my husband is more outspoken, opinionated, judgemental, etc. Therefore "they" are often perceived as rude, insensitive, entitled etc. The truth is, sorry Brits if this offends, many come from seriously dysfunctional families. They become independent at a very young age, and take pride in this, hence cultural. They glorify negative behaviors and traits due to abuse, neglect. They participate in adult behaviors, drinking, drugs sex, etc VERY young before they are emotionally ready or mature. Kids teaching kids, they can be emotionally stunted, hence the adolescent bravado. They do not realize this, it is all they know. This is not all Brits, this is something all countries deal with. What makes Brits unique is that they sometimes take pride in this behavior, rather than seeing it as bad. They do not seem interested in dealing with alcoholism, as if it is all nonsense.

I agree with you. Most of the stuff I see on here is against Americans.

It has to do with the media. We are the most represented country in the world's media, therefore we will always be under strict scrutiny. Although my parents were born in Mexico, I feel attachment to the USA because I was raised here. I hate when people say, "I hate the American accent" but they shouldn't because it is a result of 200 plus years of migration from all around the world, with people who speak different dialects. I am not saying all British are mean, but mainly the ones who are on yahoo. Yes, we are loud, yes we are rude, yes we have many religious people...but not everyone is like that. The American ideal is and always has been Individualism, and often, it comes with rudeness, egotism(or whatever you want to call it), etc. Have you ever read Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged"??

Furthermore, I think Americans see the British as more upper class, sophisticated, and with a calm demeanor, which could be seen as positive, right?

The USA entertains most of the world, thus we use ourselves as Americans to portray absurdities and whatnot. Just look at shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons. I guess people from other places draw conclusions from television.

And another thing, George Bush is no longer our president, please stop saying we are idiots because "blah, blah...Bush"

"I always wonder why they think WERE ARE so dump compared to them." I mean how smart can you be? You used the wrong "were" and added a redundant "are" since you meant to use the word "We're".

    Just kidding LOL
