Does another one bite the dust?

Waking up this morning and scanning the computer before I got ready for work, one of the first things I noticed made me pause and reflect as I read the following article on the end of one of the greatest indie labels of all time.

I spent a large amount of time throughout the 90's listening to and expanding my tastes through those albums released byTouch & Go and SST Records, another label gone to the wayside.  It is truly a sad day in the Huevo household.

MQ:  What is your favorite album put out by Touch & Go?

I'm saying either The Jesus Lizard - Goat although I spent an insane amount of my time listening to Seam's The Problem With Me and Rodan's Rusty.

Hi Huevo!!!

Yeah, it's a reality check when a respected music source like Touch N' Go records stops releasing new music.  In reading their band list I can tell these guys really bucked the system and backed some bands that, for the most part, were shunned by other record labels.  Man, how unsettling!!! We need a record label today who will be known to take a chance on certain bands.  These type of record labels are few and far between and are constantly dwindling. I guess new creative bands these days definitely need to be internet savvy in lieu of distributing music through a record company. 

I can't say I know their entire catalog but I recognized a few bands like Ted Leo, Shellac, Pinback and Slint.  I really need to check out some of their other bands.   

I actually met All Saints in a coffee shop in Atlanta about 3 weeks ago as they were in town hanging out with the band Deerhunter.

Aww, that's a shame, because I looked up bands on their label, and the ones like Big Black, Scratch Acid, & The Jesus Lizard are bands I'm really getting into at the moment. :(

MQ: Locust Abortion Technician - Butthole Surfers. I love that album. Followed by The Greatest Gift - Scratch Acid.

So far my experience with "indie" labels has been that I like the music and HATE HATE HATE the "lo-fi" production. 

I do like some of the Ted Leo stuff I've heard although apparently the album I liked (SHAKE THE SHEETS) was on Lookout, not Touch and Go. (Have yet to hear LIVING WITH THE LIVING)

I'm really sorry to hear that. :(  There are quite a few bands that recorded on the label that I've never heard, but they had some that I really liked as well.  Some pretty innovative stuff.

MQ: Terraform - Shellac. (You've brought them up before in your answers and it's been a reminder to get their albums out and give them a listen! :)
