Baseball poll and a quick Happy BDay to my Y!A friend?

My baseball poll is:

Favorite team?

Why?

Favorite player?

Why?

Favorite player on your teams biggest rival?

Why?

What do you do during the off season to follow your team?

Do you take it personally when a player you like moves on?

If they go to your teams biggest rival do you think they're a traitor?

Lastly but most importantly. Tomorrow is my friend YFFL birthday. Please go to one of her questions and give her a star. :-)

YFFL Profile, any question will do, she has a couple up.

    Favorite team - Mets

    I grew up in Queens

    Favorite player - Endy Chavez

I've always liked quiet guys that fill their role; he was a bench player with the Mets even though he was often better than some of the starters (and always better in the field), because he brought so much to the table coming off the bench - defensive substitutions, situational hitting/sacrificing, pinch runner, etc. Plus, every time I went to a game, it seemed like he did something that made Shea Stadium rock; bunt base hit, throw out a runner trying to take an extra base, and the catch featured in my avatar.

Chase Utley's my favorite Philly, just because I was a second baseman growing up and it's fun to see him at the front of the changing of the guard there.

I don't religiously follow them during the offseason, but I monitor sites to keep track of major updates, and keep an eye on free agents I want them to get. When Endy got traded, I arranged to get his jersey for my birthday before they went off the market.

When a player moves on, it depends on how they move on that I see it. When Endy got traded, I was made at the Mets, not him. If they leave for more money (not common with the Mets, fortunately), I'm not a fan. I tend to get annoyed with the team than the players when players leave since the Mets biggest losses usually happen through trades (eg Scott Kazmir)

Ditto with players going to a rival - if they have options and they choose a rival, I lose some respect for them because they can't have felt the rivalry as strongly as a fan hopes they do. If they get sent there, I get annoyed with the team. If they just end up there because that's how the situation plays out, I don't get too worked up.

As for the star... hard to do for a Yankees fan, but I managed to find one.

    Favorite team? Boston Redsox

Why? I love the culture in Boston. I love their players. I relate to their blue collar, work hard, nose in the dirt way of life. Fenway is gorgeous. I've always liked the Redsox. I've always HATED the Yanks. Enough said.

Favorite player? WAS Manny---until he betrayed Boston, now its probably Hanley Ramirez

Why? Hanley is a stud. Everything he does will be "clean." He's young, talented, explosive on both offense and defense.

Favorite player on your teams biggest rival? (Yankees) Derek Jeter

Why? He is a classy guy and always puts the team first. Never himself. He is a true class act in my opinion.

What do you do during the off season to follow your team? Check redsox.com or MLB.com daily pretty much

Do you take it personally when a player you like moves on? Yeah. Ahem, Manny.

If they go to your teams biggest rival do you think they're a traitor? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ahem, Johnny Damon, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens)

Favorite team= Chicago Cubs, i was born in Illinois

Favorite Player= Cal Ripken, Awesome role model, awesome work ethic, awesome player, and I met him in real life and he was one of the nicest athletes I have ever met. Right behind him is Luis Gonzales because Im friends with him and he by far and away is the kindest most generous professional athlete you could ever meet. He is the deffinition of class act.

Favorite player on rival team= this is a hard one because players switch teams so often. I would say the cubs #1 rival is probaly st. louis cards with the brewers right behind. Ill say albert polus (I dont know how to spell his name, ill look it up later)

Off season I use the internet to follow my team

As far as a player moving on, it depends on the situation. If a player gets offered a contact for like 5 years 50 million to play with the cubs and another team offers 5 years 53 million and he leaves the cubs for that it would absolutely make him a traitor to me. If though, like in Luis Gonzales situation with the Az diamondmback Luis offered to take a paycut to stay with Az and the owner said No he wanted Luis to sign else where. In that situation I have even more respect for the player and it makes me hate the owner and if fact, everytime Luis played against the Diamondbacks (my second fav team) I was rooting for him to beat us.

Wow, I haven't talked to you in ages(since the Finals, I think)! How have you been?

Dodgers because of family influence. Most of us are life-long Dodger fans.

Don't really have one, but I love Rafael Furcal's game

Tim Lincecum, the guy is a beast!

Go to www.dodgers.com at least 3 times a day, lol.

Yes, but I have to give myself the "baseball is a business" talk and move on.

    Most definitely

    Happy Birthday YFFL!
