Anybody that has legally changed their last name, about how much did it cost?

I was divorced back in 2003 and have recently decided I want to go back to my maiden name. Please only answer if you have done this, I don't need guesses.

I was legally divorced in 2002 and changed my name in 2004. I simply called my attorney who handled my divorce and he said it could be linked to the divorce even though the divorce had been signed and sealed. He typed up the petition which simply put request the use of my maiden name again. (He didn't charge me so I don't know here) I took it to the county court clerks office along with a self addressed stamped envelope. The had the judge sign it, the put the county seal on it and mailed it to me. No charge for this service.

I took it to the social security office and changed my name on social security. No charge. Then I went to the Department of Motor Vehicles and changed my name on my driver's license. $12.00. After that, I just went to my personell office at work, called my bank accounts, charge cards and so on and so on.

It didn't cost me anything. I just had to pay the renewal fee for my driver's license . I showed my marriage certificate. After that I went to the social security office. I think the only thing I really paid was the aggrevation of crowded buildings and long lines.

I'm using a name change kit from LegalZoom. It's $139. I'm doing it this way so that I don't forget anything. My boss uses this site frequently & my husband has used it to create Trusts so I know they're reputable.

It's been a little while since I changed mine, But I think it was like $20.00 cause I also had to pay for a new drivers license to also have my name changed on that. But it wasn't to pricy at all.
