WTF? Should banks be allowed to gouge the public this way? Hell NO!?

For hundreds of thousands of workers losing their jobs during the recession, there's a new twist to their financial pain: Even as they're collecting unemployment benefits, they're paying bank fees just to get access to their money.

Thirty states have struck such deals with banks that include Citigroup Inc., Bank of America Corp., JP Morgan Chase and US Bancorp, an Associated Press review of the agreements found. All the programs carry fees, and in several states the unemployed have no choice but to use the debit cards. Some banks even charge overdraft fees of up to $20 — even though they could decline charges for more than what's on the card.

"It's a racket. It's a scam," said Rachel Davis, a 38-year-old dental technician from St. Louis who was laid off in October. Davis was given a MasterCard issued through Central Bank of Jefferson City and recently paid $6 to make two $40 withdrawals.

Here's the rest of the story. Think we get burned enough yet? And before you start spouting off about sucking off the public titts go suck an egg.

Update:

Kim, that isn't the point. I read the entire article and these banks shouldn't be intentionally misleading recipients much less regular account holders. Sure, you can withdraw it all and i definitely would being i don't use banks anyway for these kinds of reasons. i live in a cash only world. I would no sooner accept your check as look at you or anyone else for that matter..

Update 2:

More and more people will figure it out sooner or later. Live in a cash only world. If i receive a check from anyone I cash it at a store and pay a small fee. I refuse to open a bank account again because the last one i had racked up $400 in stolen fees while i was sick once. I told them to stick it and they'll never get that money from me unless they dig up my grave and rob whatever jewelry my kids put on my body and they're still SOL because I'm not getting buried nor burned to ash. Some student gets me as a cadaver to gain knowledge of how to help others..I'll never open an account as long as any bank can collect that money even if it means dire poverty for life for me. i stand on principle and refuse to budge.

Banks are even more outrageously greedy here in Australia. You pay a monthly account fee of around $5 just for the privilege of letting them look after your money, plus if you use an ATM from a different bank they charge you for it. If you use more than X amount of transactions in a month you get charged. If you want to take out a loan, they charge you $150 to arrange the loan, plus whatever interest (say 14%), then on top of that they charge you $10 a month "management fee" on top of that. So you actually end up paying around almost twice as much as advertised borrowed on an average $10k loan.

They are robbing, thieving , gluttonous c#nts

Simply go inside and take the amount of needed cash out.
