Husky owners - extreme shedding, but no other symptoms?

My 2 year old husky/lab mix is going through a very extreme shedding the last few days. I know they shed, but he has never shed this badly this before. By extreme, I mean you can just pet him or gently pull his hair and clumps come out. He does not have any bald spots, excess dander, itching, etc. or any other signs of skin problems. He also has bright eyes, soft & shiny coat, very energetic, etc. So I really don't think it's a health issue. I haven't changed his diet. I know husky's go through a "blowing their coat" phase 2 times a year. Could this be what he is going through? What do you do to help get rid of the excess hair? I have been brushing him. How long does this last? Would it be normal not having this in the puppy stages, but when they are adults? He just turned two and I did not notice this at all when he was a pup.

Sounds like normal shedding & yes shedding is just starting depending on where you live. Puppies don't shed the same way as they do with adult coats & it is different hair. Other than taking him in the groomers for a better brush & blow out a couple of times - brush, brush, brush. You might want to add fish oil capsules to his food for a lil extra help but every hair on their body has to come out at some point & grown back.

Oh the joys of huskie's enjoy it. It's very hard to stop a husky from shedding. Believe me. Our back yard looked like a blanket. After four brushes and the same amount in combs. We finally found a good brush. It cost us $100 dollars but it works. It pulls the hair from the roots And they're shed their coats with the change in season. All I can really offer you is to get a real good book on huskies and read lots of luck.

Yes, this is normal for your husky. You might want to increase the time you brush him, to like 15-20 minutes a day. It's been years since I had my husky, but I think it was like 1 or 2 months before this stopped.

Huskys "blow coat" twice a year. I think this is what you're experiencing. Mine LOVE to be vacuumed, but it freaks other dogs out. You just need to brush them everyday. Having the groomer blow them out also helps get all the fur out. Ours last maybe 2 weeks, but we have 2 so it overlaps a little bit. As long as you don't see bald spots, don't be over concerned.

When dogs live inside and not outside 24/7 they can blow their coats more than just twice a year. It has to do with artificial lighting and things like that. Anyway try fish oil or brewer's yeast as a supplement brush brush brush, and have patience!

Yes, he's blowing his coat. Look for a furmanater, it's a great shedding brush and you can also get the shampoo to help with the shedding.I've seen them on e bay.

it's very normal for a husky. My friend has a husky and she sheds a lot.

Just try brushing her daily a LOT.

if she doesn't have any health problems, i don't think it really matters that much.

First, you're actually not meant to bathe canine regularly. it truly is undesirable for the exterior. in elementary terms do it whilst they actually get truly grimy, like coated in airborne dirt and dust. 2d, 2 years previous and dropping dissimilar hair? i might take him to the vet ASAP. I certainly have a 6 12 months previous Chiweenie and his hair hasn't thinned out in any respect.
