Would you give Obama thumbs up on this issue?

I would, and hope he sticks with his word. NO tax on motorists mileage

Obama nixes plan to tax motorists on mileage

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090221/ap_on_go_ca_st...

Update:

his transportation secretary's suggestion that the administration consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive instead of how much gasoline they buy.

Update 2:

Please don't get me wrong, I have not supported Obama since he stood up to campaign for the Presidency position. Nor have I agreed with anything the Democrat party is forcing down the throats of the American tax payers.

I'll give him props for calling a stupid idea a stupid idea. I'm sure he'll sign it when it shows up in the next stimulus bill, though.

I give him thumbs up on his ability to cherry pick first class loonies for his cabinet. Mr. LaHood, he surely lives up to his name.

BTW, California did not pass gasoline tax after all. The Democrat majority traded the tax for a Republican vote, so they can pass the budget. Other tax increases, including vehicle registration fee hike, are still intact, however. Ooops, there goes Obama's stimulant money.

Actually In the Trucking Industry they already Road Tax Milage on SEMI-Trucks and tax them again on weight inside that semi-trailer as well...

I could see this becomming a Law very easily! It would bring in much more Revenue too the feds and too each State! Its a win for them! I guess now if we fuel up we have too enter the milage on our vehicles too in order too get fuel!! I would see this be reality before Obama leaves office in 2012!

I give Obama thumbs up on nothing but when he exits the office. When this situation with the stimulus soaks in and the reasoning behind all of this comes to light, you'll feel the same as I do. I know what's happened and why and you will too soon.

I don't see taxing mileage as a good solution. It seems a little bit too much like goverment intruding into people's lives. Good for him for killing it.

And good for the Obama-bashers to call it a good move, too.

I wonder if Limbaugh will call it a bad move?

i'm guessing he had his pollsters check with their focus groups and gauge the likely amount of angry and vocal conservative opposition to this lame brained idea; best to not take it on directly, when he has congress to do his dirty work for him...it will be in a future bill, i'm sure-the sheer orwellian aspect of the whole scheme (mandatory gps chips tracking the movements of ordinary Americans) is a Big Government advocate's dream come true-the libs will LOVE it

We have enough on our plates already. Like you, I am no fan of Obama, but I'm glad he did do that.

Who is going to be left to tax for their big salaries if we're all out of work, & on the streets.

Obama wants to give it to the American people both ways.

Obama will "eventually" tax your mileage and the gas you buy.

How else will Obama pay for his spending bills?
