Have you seen that the CPSC has banned kids dirt bikes for the lead content?

It is time to revolt!! They have screwed with our finances and now they are screwing with our Children and family life.

Regulations are outlined under Title I of the Act and sets the lead limit at “600 parts per million total lead content by weight for any part of the product.” That limit will drop to 300 ppm one year after the date of enactment and 100 ppm three years after unless deemed technologically unfeasible.

The Act states that the CPSC will publish a rule providing guidance about a general exception for parts or components that are “not accessible to a child through normal and reasonably foreseeable use and abuse.” That description includes swallowing, mouthing, breaking, other children’s activity and product aging. We’re no lawyer firm, but his seems like a possible way for motorcycles and ATVs to find some relief, though delayed.

Update:

Kids Dirt Bikes have been pulled out of the dealerships. They are no longer selling the or the parts that contain lead to fix them.

We will be unable to buy new bikes or repair parts for our kids existing dirt bikes because of this. I'm TICKED!! The Federal Goverment is once again screwing with our family life. They banned thousands of acres of desert land approx 10 years ago. (where we went riding) now this!!

does your kid chew on the plastic parts alot if he does that would be a problem and that would be my concern teach your kid not to chew on plastic parts or not to ride naked other than that no not a realproblem but to people who dont even ride the bikes siting in a office some where stopped the sale of dirt bikes and ATV's for children 12 or under due to the dangers of them being on a bike just another way of getting rid of bikes they dont like . concerned about why they using lead at all knowing it causes problems ride on and dont lick the plastic

I have friends in the dealership business that are already establishing contacts in Canada just to get around this new law. But I agree, this sucks. If I didn't know any better, I'd almost say the government is trying to discourage a new generation of riders from getting into this, though in a roundabout manner.

MD what is the address to your cave?

Consumer Products Safety Comission is enforcing a rule intended for kids toys, and some genius decided it applies to kids dirt bikes and such.

It is just another heavy handed federal thing that has been misapplied. It was intended for kids toys that they might chew or such.
