Dogs hate being separated from each other - help appreciated?
Whenever they are apart from each other they whine / howl / yelp and appear to be really distressed. One has just been neutered a couple of weeks ago and the other will be done soon too - saying that they have pretty much always been like that. We are keen to take them out individually at times - mainly when training them, but we definitely can't leave one behind - even if my hubby / I stay behind with one, the behaviour is still present, and almost impossible to distract them. Help !!

I have the same issue. My dogs are shelties and they are joined at the hip. It seems that if one is outside the other needs to be outside with him. It's like they are jealous of each other. I let them stay together in the house but they both have seperate cages when we leave them home. When I train them, I take one at a time because it is easier to train one than 2 at the same time. I still hear the one left behind whine but after a while he will get bored of it. If you try stuffing a kong and leaving it to the one whose stuck behind it will keep him/her preoccupied. Hope this helps.

Sounds like they have separation anxiety! One of my dogs has this problem, cant stand to be apart from the other one, whereas she couldn't care less where he is! You need to keep separating them for short periods of time to help them realise its ok. Start with a minute and then make it longer each time. letting them know they are ok by praising them and playing with them.
Have you spoken to your vet? Normally the nurses will run clinics on this type of thing or even a trainer could help you over come this problem.
Hope all works out for you and the dogs!
Good luck

i dont know what you mean? do you mean that you have 2 dogs? well is thats so then its just that they are connected and like to have fun with each other. its all right if that happens. lol it can be annoying if they keep doing this forever. Having 2 dogs can be tough but bring a friends with you and just enyo the walk or traing with the dogs.
