Why would a doorbell hum or stay active when the wires are hooked up?

We went through an electrical storm some time ago, and it started humming.

I have replaced both push buttons, the chime, and the transformer.

I have six wires coming through the wall. 3 white and 3 red.

Update:

The house is almost 50 years old. Both buttons have their respective red and white wires.

One of three possibilities. The button is sticking, but you said you replaced it. Second: it is wired directly into the transformer and not feeding through the button first. Third: the wires are shorting out somewhere and powering the chime. You only need two wires and you have six, try using another pair of red and white wire. Wire the white directly to the chime and the red one to the button and then another wire from the button to the chime.

well this is stupid, i don't really understand the whole suspension thing, i mean nobody is hurting anyone here, just having a little fun. if people don't like the question or answer, then don't look. it's nothing to get all pissed off about and report people unless they are being totally rude and abusive, but i don't see that much of that here. Account suspension is about as dumb as a screen door on a submarine!
