Huevo's band of the day?

Formed in Leeds, England during the mid-1980's, The Wedding Present has been churning out solid albums for the last two decades. Taking a hiatus for about 9 years, David Gedge, the only remaining member of the band, reformed them about 5 years ago after his stint with the band Cinerama. They are definitely an example of one of the finest Brit-pop bands out there.

BQ: Favorite band from the UK in the last 2 decades?

Update:

Hey Prof, things are good. A bit hectic as my work schedule has been changed for the next two weeks. I'm used to getting up around 5:00 for work but now I'm getting home around 1:30 in the A.M. It causes a bit of disorientation in my head, I have a feeling once I get used to it it will be time for me to switch back again.

Thanks Mr. B! Hope everything is great in your part of the world!

Hey Captain, long time no see.

Hey Huevo - Happy Friday! I Decided to be a participant in today's "Band of the Day" hehe :-D Beat Happening just blew my mind! I like Johnson's voice. And that's a pretty interesting story regarding the ashtray mishap, and all

    My 1,000th answer..better make it a good one...no pressure...umm...

Any band that names an album after George Best is alright with me, unless they are a band that really sucks that is, which The Wedding Present definitely does not. I only a have a handful of their songs on mixed tapes here and there, and I've always liked the songs, but never bothered to dig any deeper than that. So, I'm glad you posted these.

I really dig their sound...somewhere between Wire and New Order, though they don't ape either band's sound. So I say "aye".

BQ: This one is a tough one for me, and my answer is likely to be a boring one. Radiohead and Blur are among my favs, but there are so many I haven't listened to, or listened to enough, and probably a few I'm forgetting all about at the moment, as I have a nasty headache. Excuses. excuses...

    Hi Huevo,

I like the Wedding Present alot. I don't own any of their albums but they have always been featured on some Brit music shows I listen to on college radio. They have been around for along time and deserve to be mentioned. Its has crossed my mind to post them before to give them some exposure. I guess great minds think alike. It's interesting that they have made music in various styles over their tenure including some odd sounding folk music they made at one point.

Kudos, Huevo for another below the radar band you've suggested!!!

BQ: Other than the required anwer of Radiohead, I will say the Manic Street Preachers...

I'm digging it Huevo. First track sorta had a sleepy Velvet Underground drone to it which is good, but the second track is the one that did the most for me. Good stuff :) Hope you get back to a normal schedule soon.

BA: favorite is RAdiohead, others include Charlatans UK, Blur, Lush, Stereophonics, James ... and Morissey, who for some weird reason, keeps making records

    Hi Huevo.

It was pretty good. Something didn't entirely click with me, but you know when you just know that it's about weird little hang-ups that are specific to you. Anyways. There were a lot of components that hit really nice with me (particularly in the second clip).

Thanks man. How are things going? Happy Monday.

    ba: probably Blur

    Hey Huevo.

Man, that sounds rough. I hate that too, you adjust just in time to adjust back. Hang in there.

hey Huevo... i wasn't mad on the first one... but the other two were cool! I'd never heard of these and i lived in Leeds for 6 years! i must have had a faulty radar or something ;) cheers!

Source(s): my favourite UK band is probably the Wildhearts... they are my ultimate feelgood rock band... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plBna98XZNQ&feature... ... they're still going strong and are a great live act if you ever get a chance to catch 'em ;)

    hi huevo

    an excellent choice!

a band i never particularly followed, although i have a couple of albums and saw them live once upon a time, and certainly worth a mention, if not for their undoubted influence, then their longevity.
