Who makes up the best receiving tandem in NFL history?

(Tandem: Two receivers on the same team example: Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison)

For me, it's a tie between Mark Clayton and Mark Duper, and Herman Moore and Brett Perriman. Close behind may be Chris Carter and Randy Moss, though. (Let's see how many Steelers' tandems we get)

Update:

Great speculation about trifectas, and I can think of a few that weren't mentioned, such as Monk/Sanders/Clark from the Redskins era, and who could forget the Jackson/Johnson/Nattiel from Elway, the Three Amigos. Also, set in the unknown category would be the Haynes/Rison/Pritchard era of the Run and shoot era of the Atlanta Falcons.

    1. Jerry Rice and John Taylor.

    2. Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens.

I like your Carter/Moss tandem, but have to disagree with the Marx brothers... and Brett Perriman? *shakes head* Nah...

    Rounding out the top 5:

    4. Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin

    5. Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne

Swann and Stallworth would be ahead of the Marks boys, IMO, and both tandems would be top 10.

***Luke H. - You're not too much better... without Dan Marino the Marx brothers would've been about as good as Brooks and Freeman without Favre... you don't have much room to talk.

As far a best three-way tandem... Cris Carter, Randy Moss and Jake Reed take the cake.

    Clayton/Duper

    Rice/Taylor

John Taylor had a short career, but in his prime people were saying that he was better than Rice! Taylor is the only one who ever had two 90 yard plus TD receptions in one game (both on quick slants!)

    Danny D-

You are nuts! Without Favre, no one would have ever heard of Freeman or Brooks! I say that with a truthful, heavy heart because I liked Robert Brooks. He just wasn't that good. Freeman totally sucked away from Favre! He disappeared after downgrading to McNabb.

Moss/Welker might have been if they played their whole careers together.

Source(s): Moore, Perriman, Morton might be the best 3-way combo.
  • Some great ones listed so far...

I'm surprised no one has listed any of these...

Andre Reed and James Lofton (BUF).

Charlie Joiner and John Jefferson (SD).

Alvin Harper and Michael Irvin (DAL)

And if you want the best three-headed monster, look at the Oilers with Haywood Jeffries, Drew Hill and Ernest Givens. Warren Moon was a mad bomber in that era.

as much as i % to declare Montana and Rice, i seem at what Brady and Moss did final year and there is not any denying it. Brady threw 50 Td's that season and Moss had 23 of them, they havent gained a SB yet however the stats are astounding

    Moss / Welker.

They also have one of the greatest QBs throwing to them.

Does it have to be a real combo or can we make one up? Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice. With LT at running back. Now stop that tandem.
