i do not know a gunsmith that can do this for you...but then again hunter fi has no idea WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT...americas most loved president was assassinated with a carcano rifle...hunk of junk?...hhhmmm...did fred sanford kill JFK?...and as for the 1891 mauser in 7.65,it has more steam then any sks,ak or any 7.62x39(or the .223 that all the noobs love)...the 7.35 carcano is in the 300 savage class...well above the 30-30 or the 7.62x39

This will be prohibitively expensive to do as both rounds are longer (have a longer action than the 7.62x39) and have a different boltface and barrel bore diameter. You will need to have a gunsmith alter the boltface size, put a block in the action and magazine to shorten allow the shorter cases too fit and rebarrel to .311 or .308 diameter barrel. If this can be done at all. A Carano is a hunk of junk by any standard and the Mauser you have has a weak action. Yes, you are right, you need a good gunsmith and about $2500 otherwise rethink your mission soldier.

There are good gunsmiths everywhere, but I don't know who is capable of doing this kind of work or if it is even possible. What I would do is get on the net and read up on caliber conversion of these rifles. Names will pop up that can do it at some point. You can contact them and perhaps they can do the work for you. You might have to send it out of state to have it done and it might be costly, but you want the best you can find to do this type of work.

    Good luck!
