What in the world is this guitar?

I have a Telecaster. The neck says crafted in Korea S/N 6114821. I don't know if it's a Fender or a Squire. It is transparent red with a pearloid pick-guard and gold hardware and cream binding. The headstock has been modified so that no decal is visible and it has a maple neck.

What in the world is this thing and is there a site that lists Fender/Squire serial numbers?

Update:

I believe it is either a Fender or a Squire. I forgot to mention it is a thinline.

Update 3:

It is a dream to play. The neck pickup plays like butter. The bridge has just as much bite and twang as you'd expect out of a tele. The semi-hollow body and f-hole add sustain and allows for some very nice harmonic feedback. The neck fits my hand like a glove and is my most comfortable guitar to play. It is a little flashy for my taste but the instrument has grown on me.

Yep, thats a Squire. Considered purchasing one myself but I don't know if I want the semi hollow.

I have a Fender HSS Strat and a Squier standard strat, and the quality on Squiers has really improved. I enjoy playing my squier, they are a good guitar.

How does yours play? Do you like the semi hollow body? I haven't had a chance to check one out yet.

hard to say. But they did my "Fender" in Korea. for all you know though it may not even be a fender. someone may have taken off the name just so people would think it was a fender a first glance. they made many many telecaster copies....

If you take the neck off of the body - there might be a label on the inside of the neck where it bolts to the body. just make sure when you put it back on that you put the shim, if there is one, exactly how it was when you bolt it back on.

does the headstock match fender style? that could at least give you a estimate of the year - the headstock style changed slightly over the years.

    additional info:

Fender's second string brand, Squier, also makes Thinline Telecasters, they are the Master Series Thinline Telecaster and the Vintage Modified Series Thinline Telecaster. The Master Series features twin Duncan Designed humbucking pickups, 2 volume and 2 tone controls and a 3-position toggle switch. The Vintage Modified Series is more traditional, based around the '69 Fender Thinline, featuring 2 Duncan Designed single coil pickups, 1 volume and 1 tone control with a 3-position toggle switch.

****However, in a break from the usual Fender standard, the Squier Thinline Telecasters both feature the more Gibson-esque shorter 24.75" scale where Fender use a 25.5" scale.****

    get out the measuring tape.

"every day i have the blues" is correct on this the squire has improved quite a bit. you already have one, but with a squire it is usually a good idea to play around with a few of them because oddly even the same model can sound different from guitar to guitar.

yeah, and - if i was going to go the semi-hollow route as he mentions - i would probably find a gibson model, they are more of the "semi hollow body" company than fender is...

Without giving you a life story, it's a Fender Squier with a modified Pickguard with a pearly finish.
