I take violin/viola and composition lessons and this takes up all of my spare time and I am planning on auditioning for a local symphony at sometime in the future. I have always listened to classical music. If anyone is interested in my youtube videos (I upload old recordings from records of classical pieces) or videos I have favorited, please see the following: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dagrehn Recent addition to a question I read, "ahaha, Yeah I know, it's not classical. It's just a four chords sequence, but no one there gives a crap about composing. It's all about pop music."

  • Betelgeuse going super nova...?

I do not understand this. This really applies to anything but since I was reading about Betelgeuse I will use it as the example. So people are wondering whether Betelgeuse will go super nova. Seeing as how the image we see of Betelgeuse is about 640 years old why would we not be able to measure that it has already went nova and why are people wondering? Are there no other methods of measurement that can be done? If our Sun were to suddenly go nova would it really take 8 minutes for us to realize it? Would there be no other indicators aside from waiting for the light to catch up?

  • How on earth do I quit playing the pipe organ?

Here is the story. My Parents are MAKING me take the pipe organ....They didn't even ask me my opinion... While I was at school they had one built into the wall of my bed room! They threw out all of my rap music and my xbox 360 and games to make room for it. I thought I could stuff potatoes into the pipes, that way, when I floored the pedals, the organ engine would blow up....sadly, it did NOT work....

what can I do to? I am kind of in a tight spot here...little help...pls...

    thanx everyone!

  • Oil pressure and Jeep Wrangler question?

When I start up my Jeep oil pressure is normal (and it is sitting after start up). After I run it for a bit it hovers around normal but when I go really slow or come to a stop oil pressure is around 10 on the gage (practically 0). When I start moving again it goes right back up to normal. - I have full oil according to the dip stick. Does anyone know what would cause this?

  • How do I swap notes with Sibelius First?

I can't figure this out for the life of me. If you can't do it maybe a plug in?

I have a score in all eighth notes and want to change the whole piece into sixteenth notes...

I can think of many ways to accomplish this but I can't figure out HOW to.

Some of these would include either changing the whole score, or change the score and moving all of the rests to the end of the measures, swapping the notes....

It is really annoying that I can't find a way to do this...

    Does anyone know?

  • what would you suggest in violin solo?

I just received an itunes gift card and would like to purchase some solo violin works.

...or maybe viola or cello. I know that Bach pulled inspiration from some previous solo violin sonatas but I can't remember the composers name.

so minus the Bach which I obviously already have, what do you know of to augment my library?

  • instantaneous composition?

I am curious. When considering the greats, such as Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin...etc..

Yes they had rigorous training in there chosen art, but do you think most of their composition was guided but spontaneous?

Let's consider that most composition as I understand it is initially done on piano, am I wrong in this assumption?

Is it really the theory of music that makes someone a great composer? or..is it that they have been playing piano for so long they have an innate ability the recognize distances and patterns that actually have nothing to do with the sound of the notes. they just know where the fingers go to produce certain notes because they are relative to high and low...do you know what i mean?

    what do you think?

  • impressiveness of instrumental works and how to books?

Do you think that when a piece of music is put into a very popular, "How to play <insert instrument here> book 1....2...3" it degrades the validity of the composition or makes it less impressive?
