question about tabulature?

if tabulature was used as far back as the 1300's and for lute and organ (?! do I smell piano tabs?) why is this form of music notation viewed with such animosity?

I doubt we'll ever see piano tabs, while there is some pragmatism for guitar, you can't convey enough information with a piano tab. The closest thing we have are those electric keyboards that have a diagram of the notes you play. I've seen some that have pieces you can load onto them. But it's such a slow and tedious way to learn a piece that it will never catch on.

The animosity comes from people who learned to read conventional music notation, which as you know, is a relatively easy thing to learn. I've done a few gigs with guitarists and handed them a piece of music only to have them say they can only read tabs. Then I had to split the paycheck with people who weren't even able to play half the pieces we did.
