what defines rock music (classical forum)?

based on another question I have been responding to, what actually defines rock music?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aq5_m...

Update:

the electric violin is a modern instrument - canon was composed in the (1600/1700 hundreds...) so what is it....i wasn't aware that the instrument defined the period...you know what i mean?

Update 2:

also, you can play some srv on a classical guitar - it doesn't make it flamenco.

Update 3:

the question bugs me, not your post ;)

- I never said that rock and classical are the same - they are different - but what differentiates it. surely if i play the bach cello suites on a bass guitar it would still be considered classical music.....

I would say that since it's beginning the two basic elements for what generally defines rock music are:

drums and heavily amplified electric guitars, including bass, rhythm, and lead.

I am afraid I do not believe in absurd, antithetical ideas borne out by titles like "Classical Metal" just because some choose to give the utter bile that bands like "Apocalyptica" spew forth, a name.

This is really bugging you, isn't it? And no, I don't think the instrument defines the period.

This Wikipedia article defines it(rock music): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_music

This " " " " " " what is generally considered to be Classical music I feel very well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_music_(disa...

Bottom line, it(rock music) isn't classical music by whatever yardstick one chooses to measure.

  • Canon Rock is "Neo-Classical Metal"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_Rock_%28music%2...

and I think The Asker Wanted "Classical" music with "Classical instruments"

Electric Guitar is considered as a "Modern Instruments" not a "Classical"

    ----------------------------------

so...I can say , Why not putting "Apocalyptica" next to "Mozart" ??

    They're Classical Metal , Mozart is Classical . It's Different .

    Good Question BTW

    =)

if the specific gravity is above 2.8 it is considered rock. if you get to 4 or even higher you can consider it to be rock solid. anything below 1 is gay boy group crap.

Smoke on the Water (live) has 12,215,602 hits and is about as rock as you can get.
