How on earth do I quit playing the pipe organ?

Here is the story. My Parents are MAKING me take the pipe organ....They didn't even ask me my opinion... While I was at school they had one built into the wall of my bed room! They threw out all of my rap music and my xbox 360 and games to make room for it. I thought I could stuff potatoes into the pipes, that way, when I floored the pedals, the organ engine would blow up....sadly, it did NOT work....

what can I do to? I am kind of in a tight spot here...little help...pls...

thanx everyone!

Switch ♪♫, you've ether gone of the deep end or gone all "Rodmilla" on us.

Edit: Oh, those spuds ... all they would do is lower the pitch of the pipes buy (about) an octave. Of course you would have completely distorted the pipes and destroyed the tuning scrolls (metal); and you'd just make a stinky mess of any wood pipes. There's just nothing like the smell of rotting vegetables in a confined space.

... 'splain this organ to us: High or low pressure, how many ranks, what's the disposition?

Source(s): I thought I was the only one around here that was trying to shoehorn an organ into a bedroom - albeit an electronic console, and the guest bedroom.

It is quite unfortunate that you do not want to play it, however this really is an enormous gift that I am positive they have spent alot of money on. Perhaps try it out for a while? Look up songs for the organ and see if you think that you'd be interested in some day being able to generate the capability to make that song come alive with your very own hands.

Start with simple practises-they'll rally help you later on. But don't be hesitant to challenge and push yourself with pieces that many would say are beyond your capability.

I have been playing piano for only three years and already my fingers are dancing with the most complicated pieces from Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff, my favorite composers.

This I accomplished without a teacher, and despite comments I would never be able to learn such pieces in such a short time. It does not have to be classical however, many Power Metal and Rock&Roll songs require the use of Pipe Organ... But, since you seem to be so fond of Rap, perhaps you could use your skills to create a new-kind of Rap, loaded with background beats laden heavy with pipe organ sounds (maybe complemented with some wicked soloing?).

I am POSITIVE that if you stick this course, have a good ear for it, and follow with a passion, you could pull it off, and not only will it definitely be unique, but it could easily be highly successful. It also helps that this genre generally tends to need VERY little technical prowess to pull off, so it would not be too difficult, nor shoud take you too long to bring yourself to the level necessary to begin such a venture.

Anyways, whatever your choice, I hope you good luck and a bright future!

    Cheers,

It sounds like you are in a no-win situation here. Your parents, who really do have all the power, obviously want you to play the organ. So, until you are old enough to quit, you might as well grin and bear it. My parents forced me to take 12 years of classical piano lessons from age 5 through 17. I hated it - no that is putting it mildly. I despised it. People told me that I would than them for it later, and I thought they were crazy at the time.

However, it did help me with other things that I did enjoy. Many studies have shown that children exposed to several years of formal music lessons before 9 years of age do much better in math than those who did not take formal music lessons. I remember taking geometry in high school and absolutely loving math from then on. I went on to major in math in college.

I always wanted to join the band, which I was finally allowed to do in the 7th grade. I had a tremendous advantage over the other students who had started band even earlier because I could read music and already had years of music theory (learned through those despised piano lessons) and experience before I ever played my first note in band.

I am now looking back on those detested years of forced piano-playing with the hindsight that 50 years can give you. I am glad that my parents forced me to take 12 years of despised piano lessons. Those lessons enabled me to be really good in math. BTW, I still play the piano, but now I like it because it is my idea to play now.

I assume that your pipe organ has all the bass pedals. That is a very difficult instrument to play. In fact, it is rated 5 out of 5 in difficulty of mastery. I think the harp is the only other instrument that has that rating. Most band instruments and the piano are rated a 3. Percussion instruments are rated a 2. The oboe, bassoon, and all the string instruments in the orchestra rate a 4. I think the bagpipes are also a 4. I do wonder why your parents chose the organ instead of the piano, but I guess they had their reasons.

Well, I would give you a straightforward answer, but alas, that would end with jail time spent for arson. If you saw off the pedals, that takes care of the foot portion. If you stick your mother's manicure tools into the stoppers, that might help as well.

Have you considered that maybe they built the pipe organ into your wall as a comment on the ammount of time you spend in the self-loving department? Just wondering ;-)

merely me, and the standard organist on the church I used to attend. Oh, and my college track concept professor, yet he's long previous directly to be with Jesus now. i'm extremely not very stable at it, as i'm extra of a pianist via training. I do delight in listening to Bach's organ works. I also have a pair of Virgil Fox CDs that I cherish.
