Problem with Sony DVP NS 708H DVD Player - Wavy Lines Appear on Screen?

Hi everyone,

About a week ago I purchased a Sony DVP NS 708H DVD Player. I was extremely happy since at last I would be able to watch my DIVX movies on TV.

However, when I connected it to my CRT TV and tried to watch a DIVX movie, all sorts of lines appeared on the screen. On close inspection, I realized that these lines were sort of a "shadow" of the TV station that the television was on before changing the display to AV2.

It is pretty difficult to explain it.

For example, if the TV station prior to switching to AV2 was "Channel X", then when I switch to AV2 and switch on the DVD Player, "Channel X" appears in the background along with the video I am playing.

It is pretty annoying and is getting on my nerves.

Has anybody experienced the same thing? Is there a way how I can correct this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

To Magyver:

I though of that, so I tried to switch it to AV1. The same problem occurred. However, with my PS2, these issues are non-existent.

Update 2:

The maker of my TV is Ultravox. It is a CRT TV and I have bought it about 8 years ago.

Toni, you didn't mention the maker of your TV, but I don't think that it matters. One thing seems pretty clear, there is signal leakage into your AV2 switch setting.

In all my years of troubleshooting I don't see how the Sony player can cause the signal leakage through AV2. It would seem to be a problem with the TV.

Additional details: Boy, Toni, you sure came up with a problem. I would have said the leakage would maybe occur through all AV outputs, but you indicate the ps2 does not show the symptom.

Dude, I know I'm not the sharpest tack in the box, but it looks like it's just me and you. OK, I guess you used the same cable to try the ps2, right? Then, there's only one thing left to do to try to prove something.

You need to use your Sony on a friend's system, it's the last basic troubleshooting technique. You have to test it on another TV, like putting a suspect Chevy starter on another Chevy to see if it will spin it over. Trouble, yes, but we already have trouble.

You have a lot of expensive equipment in danger of being condemned to the dumpster, you keep trying, I'll keep watching.

    Hey, I'm still here, right?
