is an AIB Maestro card classified as an Visa Electron?

    No, I'm afraid not. I have one myself. It is a debit card, and I was able to use it overseas, in ATM machines. But I wasn't able to use it for airline bookings, where they will accept the Visa Electron. Maestro is nothing to do with Visa.

    Look on the card itself !

    On the front - there should be a VISA sign in blue lettering n a white background it will also say ELECTRONIC USE ONLY

    I have two visa cards - one is a full VISA credit card - the other is a VISA ELECTRON card - and is just a debit card.
