What do you think of the Israel's new government approach to the Israel-Palestinian conflict?

The current government elected in Israel is a right-wing government compromised mainly of the Likud and Yisrael Beitenu parties. Despite what the anti-Israel fanatics would like to believe, everyone in Israel, except the extreme right wing religious parties, support peace with the Palestinians. They just have a perspective on how to achieve it.

The Likud recently announced that it's not going to aspire to a PERMANENT agreement with the Palestinians at the time since there is no "peace partner" to negotiate with. Hamas won't even acknowledge Israel's right to exist and the Palestinian authority is too weak both in strength, popularity and control of territories to represent the palestinian public in a permanent agreement. Therefore, Likud and the new government will put emphasis on developing industrial and commercial zones in the Palestinian territories in the west bank to improve the economy and the well-fare of the inhabitants, as well as to strengthen the moderates among the Palestinians.

What are your thoughts of it?

Update:

@Palestinian forced 2leave home3 - Oh yes, such an evil right wing government. How dare they attempt to terrorize the Palestinians by aspiring to improve the welfare and economic condition of the moderate Palestinians!

    So just to clarify:

The Palestinians demanded self rule and their own area; the Israelis agreed and left Gaza; the Palestinians responded with increased terrorism; and now Israel is going to HELP the Palestinians and their gutless, murderous Hamas government by pouring yet MORE money into the Palestinian territories?

I say Israel is too decent. The Palestinians deny Israel's very right to EXIST. The Israelis should respond in kind - let's see how the Palestinians feel at being denied in that way!!

There will be much speculation as to what is going to happen. Speculation about what Bibi will do and how the new government will respond. It remains speculation until the government is actually formed and will depend to some extent on the deals Bibi cuts with the smaller parties. When the government is formed, and we expect that Bibi will be the new PM, then we shall hear what he intends to do. Whether he will be the strong leader everyone expects him to be remains to be seem.

Concerning Hamas (Violence - that's the translation of Hamas) any deals, truces or agreements cut with them won't be effective because their agenda is different from our Western "modus operandi". They will say one thing and mean another. Only firm action can bring results in such a situation and many Israelis are wondering why the Gaza war came to an end without fully achieving the needed results.

One thing is certain, the situation in the ME will continue to occupy the headlines until Messiah comes.

From how you have explained the question Dark Al, I think it is a good idea but deep down, I am not sure it's going to work.

Some prominent leaders cry "peace peace when there is no peace".

I know that there are groups in Israel who are already trying to develop "non political" industry to try to help, but to me, it is a bit like sticking an elastoplast on a broken leg. If the root of the problem is not dealt with, then "the leg will always limp" if you know what I mean.

On the other hand, if bridges can be built for co-operation, then it will be worthwhile, that is, if the people in Gaza can hear the truth.

I like Benjamins Netanyahu of the Likud party. He doesn't give up so easily or give in, Likud refuses to give up Golan Heights (where Syria had huge artilery pieces up on and fired shots 16 miles onto Israeli cities). He also is unwilling to withdraw from parts of Jerusalem like Kadima or Yisrael Beitenu. I also agree that strengthening economic zones in Palestinian area is a good idea provided by Mr. Netanyahu. I'm not sure if talking indirectly to Hamas is the best idea and that could possibly change with the new government.

i think of the money path of this election is going directly to the middle East, with Jewish money in the back of McCain and Muslim money in the back of Obama. i think of Obama will carry on with the money, i think of McCain will carry on with the money. It so happens that i've got self belief the corruption in the back of McCain maximum suitable serves united states of america because of the fact i've got self belief that the Christian faith is actual in its help of Israel (the Abrahamic Covenant, Genesis 12, and Romans 9-11). Neither candidate has a center East answer, and neither candidate has the potential or connections to be something different than somewhat participant in a international band it relies in the volitale area the place hate of Israel drives geo-political and non secular judgements. Obama isn't something better than a pawn in this chess interest. we are witnessing a important set of events which will dictate peace or conflict interior of right here couple of months. the two way, Iran may be the 1st important flow in this chess interest, with Israel/Britian/US and _______ disposing of the nuclear vegetation Iran is working on. Obama is aligned with the Muslim international, actually tens of millions of Muslim money is being feed into this election. i'm uncertain who is going to % the subsequent President, the U. S. citizen or the middle East effect...

i think the israeli government have summed it up quite clearly

if hamas are the representatives that the gazans want then it is a clear indication that they don't want peace

    but still the israelis try

it would be difficult to try to aspire to a permanent peace when the people they are expected to negotiate with are terrorists who refuse to acknowledge the rights of israelis and want them removed from the middle east

perhaps a successful west bank might make the gazans see what life could be like for them if they were not so willing to embrace terrorism

Hopefully the new Israeli government will finally bring peace to the southern israeli citizens who live in fear, and help the palestinian authority gain economical stability, needed in these times of crisis.

I think that the only way to get peace is to wipe out Hamas, which the current government intends to do.
