If you go to or went to Santa Clara University can you answer some of my questions?

Hey there! I'm a Junior at the University. To answer your questions:

How big are the classes? It depends on your major. If its a Bachelor of Arts, its rare to get above 35. The more advance the class, the smaller it gets. I've had classes with only six people. If its a Science class or whatnot, you can be in small lecture halls, but nothing crazy like at the UC's.

What is around Santa Clara to do for fun? PLENTY. San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Monterey. Downtown San Jose has plenty of clubs and bars. The hills aren't too far off and so its pretty easy to go hiking and camping.

Why did you decide to go to Santa Clara? I live about fifteen minutes from it and its a good school with a fantastic Political Science staff.

Is there a church mass just for students? No clue. I'm Buddhist.

Do you get to see an adviser frequently? Whenever I want during his office hours. He and I are pretty chill, and that goes for most students and their advisers.

Do you feel safe on the campus? Oh yes. You -always- see security. Its a huge presence on campus.

Are people friendly? Very. You'll get the snobs and the typical 'likeomg' types, but there's a type for everyone there. If you're into parties, you'll like it. If you're into hiding out and studying all day, there's a place for you too.

Can you talk to your professor after class? YES. Since the classes are so small, you can easily build relationships with your professors. Some even hand out their cell phone/home phone numbers on the syllabus.

Do the dorms have laundry facilities? If so are they free? Not free. But they're there.

What do you like most about school? Its so beautiful. I can't really explain to you HOW beautiful it is. And you get to know your professors.

What do you dislike most about school? Party scene and the people in them. They're just not my type.

What was the biggest surprise about going to college? The solidarity factor. You're alone! No one to hold your hand and carry you along like in High School.

What was the biggest disappointment? Not living on campus.

Is it hard to get into classes in your major? No. Perhaps the lower divisions, but there's ALWAYS enough space. For upper division classes, students in the major can pre-register. Its really hard to not get into the class you want if you're on top of deadlines.

How's the business major? Not too sure. I know its hard to get into it. And that its really, really good. But other than that, not too much.

What kind of academic programs do they have? Go to http://www.scu.edu/

What factors are used in accepting students? You need to be an all-around type of person. If you have a 4.0, it doesn't mean you'll get accepted. I had a mediocre SAT score of 1800, and a GPA of 3.3 coming into Santa Clara. But I had a fantastic volunteer record. Nail the essay.

Are their jobs on campus that aren't for federal work study? Yes. There's a whole database that lets you check for it as well. They'll tell you about it.

Does Santa Clara have a weekend for accepted students like Gonzaga does? YES. Even as a commuter student, I had to go to the two-day orientation. It was fun. You get placed into resident learning communities and in that two-day bit, you get to know others in your dorm. Its a big 'getting to know you' fest. And fancy. Especially for the parents.
