Which one of Ron Paul's ideas is "LOONEY"?
- Supports a humble foreign policy and ending the war in the Middle East
- Supports going back to the gold standard to limit government spending, believes we should only spend what we have
- Supports transitioning people off of medicare/medicaid, social security and eventually returning the money to the people
- Supports ending to the failed war on drugs
- Supports ending the Federal Reserve, who through its manipulation of interest rates has caused the greatest housing bubble in US history
- Supports states' rights
- Supports ending the government's involvement in marriage and in the bedroom

Ending the war on drug would NOT mean more crimes, but actually much much less crimes. When drugs are legalized gangs' and mobs' funds will immediately stop.

Foreign policy. If we are not willing to use military force to secure resources, China is. So are many other nations. For example, Obama is adopting nearly all the Bush polices in regard to Iraq and any place that has oil or an important resource. His alternate energy rhetoric is just sales and marketing. It's all emotional feel good peace love and granola. Don't buy into the hype. The bottom line is that the US will do whatever is needed to maintain our standard of living. Paul would be no different. Once he got in office and received all the top secret briefings, his policy would change too. It's all crap. Short of going back to the horse and carriage, no US president is going to deviate from this. Paul says he would. Right. I doubt it. Everything else he stands for is ok by me. I am unsure of his drug policy. If you mean he wants to tax it and regulate, great. I'd love to see some details on that. But for now, he's kooky. I like Paul but what we really need is about 30 or 40 more Congress critters just like him. Until that happens he is a lone gunman.

Great Q. I have heard many more of Ron Paul's ideas than just those, but I'm sorry, I still can't think of a single one that I would call "looney." Or even "bad."
xiphos, I gave you an immediate thumbs up for saying "Obama is adopting nearly all the Bush polices in regard to Iraq." It is refreshing to see someone actually willing to point this out.
However, I disagree with you that a hypothetical president Paul would change his policies once elected. Look at his voting record. He does not deviate from his principles. That's why his nickname is "Dr. No" and his arm is described as "untwistable."
Edit: also, the asker is exactly right in his analysis of the drug war, and what's worse, the CIA ships huge amounts of narcotics into the US, and the government is balls deep in the international drug market. look it up for yourselves.

The Gulfstream II business jet was registered to Donna Blue Aircraft, Inc.[21]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendition_aircraft EDIT: @Brown, (below) PLEASE research the following term: "Fractional Reserve". It might cause you to change your position... I'm not saying we can just wind back the clock and return to the gold standard *(and that's not what RP is saying either... he uses the term "sound monetary policy"...) but fractional reserve banking is a SCAM against the people for one thing, and it is totally unsustainable for another! - GiordanoLv 41 decade ago
Dear God in Heaven! Look at some of the sheeple answering this question! It boggles my mind! Alright, lets gets started by cutting some folks down to size, shall we?

Reagan was a puppet of Bush Sr. He did what he was told, that is all. Gorbachev was going to pull down the Berlin wall whether Reagan demanded it or not. Read the book "Compromised" by former CIA agent Terry Reed.

lol! First off, you obviously have no understanding of States Rights. Under the Constitution, the States have AUTHORITY OVER the Federal Government, not the other way around. The Federal Government is a creation of the States, and if enough states want to, they can legally shut it down any time they please. Second, trying somehow to connect the dots between states rights and racism is idiotic. Is that all you got? He's a racist because he wants to follow the Constitution? LOL! Pathetic!
////Top Notch Mama
What in the hell are you blathering about........?
////Everyone who thinks ending the war on drugs is "bad":
Listen sheeple, the war on drugs has been going on for DECADES. It failed. Its over. Only a retard gets beat up the same way for 30 or 40 years, then comes back for more. Time for a new strategy. Making drugs legal will decrease crime, put Drug Lords out of business, and lower our immense prison population. And frankly, what someone puts into their own body is none of your damn business.

Calling an idea "Looney" is not an explanation for why you disagree with it. Can't you form more than single sentence responses, or are you still working on that GED?
Gold Standard: Guess who said this;
"In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold. If everyone decided, for example, to convert all his bank deposits to silver or copper or any other good, and thereafter declined to accept checks as payment for goods, bank deposits would lose their purchasing power and government-created bank credit would be worthless as a claim on goods. The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves.
This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard."
ALAN GREENSPAN SAID THIS! Before he joined the Fed and they sucked out his soul anyway......

Medicare / Medicaid / Social Security:
We are in the middle of an economic collapse largely caused by massive Government deficit spending. If you think any of these services will exist in the next 10 years, you are naive. They will disappear whether you like it or not.
States Rights:
Sheeple know nothing about States Rights, and the Federal Government certainly does not respect them. Again, you reveal your ignorance. Perhaps you should look up the "John Warner National Defense Authorization Act" if you don't understand how States Rights are being severely eroded.
Government In The Bedroom:
Uh.......Gay Marriage Ban ring any bells? Who the hell is the Federal Government to decide who can and cannot get married?
Wasteful Government Programs:
Again, the Government will be broke in the next few years if it tries to continue the spending path it has taken, so none of your precious (and useless) Federal Programs will exist soon anyway.

Holy crap, how have you survived for as long as you have. Natural Selection should have removed you from the gene pool a long time ago.
The Constitution is designed TO LIMIT THE POWER OF GOVERNMENT!!!! Jesus! Where did you get your education? The reason the Federal Government has became a "Monster", is because they refuse to follow the laws laid out in the Constitution. The U.S. Constitution is one of the most important documents IN HISTORY. Read the damn thing before you criticize it.

I've already cut you down so many times it has become redundant. Please actually research the facts before embarassing yourself any further.

RPR, your full of sheet! Those aren't Ron's ideas there Tom Jefferson's ideas!!! Ron Paul is just parroting ole Tom. Ron Paul NEVER had an original idea in his life!
I'm SERIOUS HERE!!! Listen to Ron Paul & you'll start to notice his ideology sounds EXACTLY like our founding fathers. Just because Ron has a 101% Constitutionally based voting record does that make him a better representative than Nazi Pelosi? AND, what could be more patriotic than the GWB administrations patriot act? I mean who backs habeas corpus anyways?
What American would want Ron Paul as America's president? It'd be like voting for our founding fathers all over again! Imagine the REPRESSION ALL Americans would be under if America went back to Constitutionally based government. Why people would have to learn to take care of their own achin lil azzes all over again. How would Americans make it with out "THE NANNY STATE" to think for us??? Ron Paul is really a Libertarian standing on the repubie ticket.
America has a wonderful, honest, fair, non paid for, & transparent two party system, lets keep it that way by NOT allowing 3rd parties to be allowed to compete against our repubie & demmie masters, whoops, er ah, I mean parties, PARTIES!!!
Below is a link that explains WHY we don't need 3rd parties... READ CAREFULLY & SLOWLY, be sure to ABSORB the info...

I don't think any of the ideas are loony, I just have trouble seeing the market being able to handle public education to the benefit of all students, or providing for energy efficient alternatives since they are not currently profitable, but very necessary. No matter what, somebody would get screwed over on Social Security. I also see a bit of difficulty in returning to the gold standard.

[Ending the war on drug would NOT mean more crimes, but actually much much less crimes. When drugs are legalized gangs' and mobs' funds will immediately stop.]...meaning they will need to commit more violent crimes against people other than other gang members to make up the short-fall.
[Supports going back to the gold standard to limit government spending, believes we should only spend what we have]
...."as of February 14, 2009 ($941.35/troy ounces)[2]. The total value of all gold ever mined would be US$4.39 trillion at that price."
"U.S. annual gross domestic product is about $15 trillion...U.S. money supply is also about $15 trillion".
So we would have less than a third of our present money supply.

None, at all. Most of them are derived from the ideas of Thomas Jefferson, principles from the Constitution, the roots that set this country free and prosperous from big government, and the consequences of foreign military/political intervention.
- BradLv 51 decade ago
The one mistake Dr. Paul makes is that he believes that we ought to go back to the Constitution. The Constitution is a dangerous document that allows for a tyrannical federal government to emerge and which has already failed to prevent that. If we're going to have a government, I'd suggest restoring the Articles of Confederation, although I would prefer to implement Rothbardian Anarcho-Capitalism.
Basically the only "loony" idea Dr. Paul has is that he thinks that this monster called the federal government can be limited.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Only one from your list, and that is ending the war on drugs. If fought properly we could win. BUt unfortunately our government doesn't want us to. A good start would be sealing off our southern border, that would take care of about 85% coming overt here.

- Supports a humble foreign policy and ending the war in the Middle East
Every presidential candidate since Eisenhower promised that. Meaningless.

So does everyone. Another meaningless position.
- Supports ending the government's involvement in marriage and in the bedroom
No government agents in my bedroom.

LOONEY
