Does catfish dough bait still work good off bobbers?

Usually where I am fishing there a many weeds, but big cats. People keep telling me use minnows and dough bait off a bobber, but catfish are bottom feeders... Will catfish come up and take it? If you know any other good catfish baits please tell me. thanks.

hey man, yes you can use a bobber. that is what i fish with probably 75 percent of the time when i fish for the sneeky kitty kitty, now i dont use the regular ol red and white bobber, you know what i mean right.. i use a slip bobber or one of those big ol 12 inch saltwater bobbers, the one used with saltwater fishing. i run the stop for the slip bobber about a foot deeper than the depth of the water that i am fishing. now when fishing some seriously deep water no i would recommend fishing bottom bit like most people fish, water anywhere between 4-10 foot deep a slip bobber will work good for you. i wouldnt try to suspend the bait in the middle of the water. you want to keep the bait close to the bottom. if you are fishing with bobbers like the regular run of the mill bobber make sure that your bait is close to the bottom. now i dont know how in depth you are with your catfishing but lets say that you are a starter,(if i am wrong, i apologize) go to the local walley world and they normally have a good catfish dough bait. I like the one that is a mixture of shrimp and chickens blood. man if i can answer anything else shoot me an email. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience

you most likely wouldn't be using it in 20 feet of water but a situation where you wanted to keep your bait above the logs, weeds and rocks to keep from getting hung up l can see using one. cats are fished in small rivers regularly with sliding float systems and depending on where you set your bobber stop, there is no limit to how deep you can fish with one.

l fish off the face of a dam with a sliding float set to let my bait go to about 12 feet deep often. that is to present my bait just above the rocks.

cats will come to the top, especially at night. limb lines are set to put the bait just below the surface.

minnows work, but not great. catfish are predatory fish but the reason they call them bottom feeders is because they usually feed off of the bottom of the water source, unlike bass and trout. dough baits work well, chicken livers, crawdads, and night crawlers also work. i personally like to use chicken livers wrapped up with 5lb test.

I just throw it out in the middle and let it sit on the bottom. Then don't come up much so put the bait down to them.

They will come and get it if it's not too shallow. They don't like going to the top of the water but, if they have to they will. I've caught bullheads with worms and bobbers before.

    Hope i helped ya out.
