  • any california anglers got the new warden stickers yet?

they just came out this year.

optional. not required. 5 bucks each.

the money goes to purchase special equipment for the game wardens. him seeing a sticker on your car should earn you some extra brownie points.

l bought 4. one for the car, 3 as collectibles. these are the first ones, after all.

  • lake san antonio, monterey county, california?

has anyone fished here within the last couple weeks?

l'm planning a trip there in another week or two for a few days.

l am thinking of the harris creek area or the upper end of the lake.

l fish mostly bass but would like to find some good crappie.

l am hoping to get some use out of my float tube. l prefer not to use waders but is the water still too cold for shorts?

how is the water level right now? how far down from the high water mark?

l don't have anything against the other side of the lake but am absolutely unfamiliar with it.

how about winds? any wind protected area? l WILL be in my float tube.

MANY, many thanks for any potential tips and recommendations.

  • Why do people CONTINUE to fish for bass?

Robert played us like a fish.

l vote for him as our resident troll.

l sure didn't see that coming.

fortunately, he picked a best answer before l got my response entered.

a big gold star to him.

thumbs and HAHAHAHA on all of us monkeys.

  • remove hooks from lures?

l invited a fishing buddy to go fishing with me this week.

he has not yet obtained a license.

the idea came up to remove the hooks from one of his swimbaits and use it as a teaser.

l was unable to find an exact answer in the regulations as to whether or not this would be considered angling.

    regs say:

pursue, hunt, capture or attempt to do so (roughly).

fish has to voluntarily take hook in mouth. no snagging.

    no hooks on lure.

    sooo...

is this fishing as described in the regulations?

  • who taught these birds trigonometry?

the last couple catfishing trips up to the lake, I ran into some evidently educated coots (mudhens).

I'm sure they are aware of the water depth. I got no problem with that.

but when they look at the angle of my line entering the water, they swim right out to where my bait is resting on the bottom and dive right down to it. this has happened multiple times. what's up with that?

  • sue the fish and game poachers?

after someone has been convicted and sentenced in a criminal court for fish and game violations, would it not be possible or feasable to turn around and sue them in a civil action?

many judges are notoriously lenient on these types of violations.

there are still way too many people that feel it is their right to steal as much of our game and fish as they please and they GET AWAY WITH A SLAP ON THE HAND.

it is done for other offences. why not fish and game violations?

  • To anyone concerned about 2112...?

l wasn't sure until l thought about it a bit.

l will only start worrying if the auto manufacturers don't bring out the 2013 models or if Obama says he's gonna open his presents on the 21st.

since l need a question to pick best answer from, l'll ask ... um... ah...

from what movie came the lines:

"She turned me into a NEWT! ... l got better."

  • A Night Bass Fishing Experience. A BAT Fishing Experience.?

can a bat bite through monofilament line? l got into a bass bite last night unlike anything l've seen. not big numbers, just the way they hit. was using a 10" plastic worm with 12lb line. heavy stuff for me. never had time to set the hook!! the bass just hammered these things and were on. four times. biggest one (of course) pulled about 10 feet (strong), when a bat was dicking around the end of my rod. line broke and now this bass is dragging around 50 ' of mono. there were lots of bats last night and they were messing constantly with my line. had to hold rod tip low close to the water. l have never run into bats in these quantities before. have you ever had any experiences like this? can and will bats bite through monofilament line?

l know the fish didn't break it on his own. l fish regularly with 8lb and this was new 12lb maxima. (l will go a little heavier at night.)

any input on any of this, please?

  • HA! P.E.T.A. is sending Obama a humane bug catcher...?

    whadda ya think of that?

    what a bunch of jerkoffs.

where the heck is the peta section? l want to ask them their real opinion on swatting flies. are they that far out?

l posted this here in fishing because this is where l mostly hang out.

but l wouldn't mind trolling through their neighborhood if l knew how to get there...

  • about ponds being stocked by birds.?

l have noticed here recently, a number of mis-informed individuals explaining how their pond was stocked by firds carrying eggs in on their feet.

once the eggs are in place, who makes the nest?

who cares for the eggs and keeps them clean and keeps predators away?

who guards the fry and also guards them from predators (including birds)?

please back up these claims with some kind of evidence other than "my grampa tole me".

l have googled and yahoo'd for days now and have found no evidence supporting these claims. they are at face value, ridiculous and those that believe these fairy tales need to have a reality check.

c'mon...l'm open to all realistic responses with some kind of back up.

  • a general question to those that don't like the answers received?

is that how you censor a thoughtful, considered answer that you just happen to disagree with and not let those ideas be shared with the Y!A community?

    just delete your question?

what are you afraid of? you have plenty of answers that agree. you can even pick one of those as best. why not let both sides of an issue be aired intelligently? l am not afraid of sharing my opinions. that is all you find here anyway. opinions.

while this is directed at a particular question, l've seen this happen more than once. censorship is bad in any form.

let your question run it's course and pay no attention to any responses that you may find distasteful, but as long as you're asking, let us answer!!!

someone else may find a new idea stimulating and useful.

  • Possibilities of interbreeding fish and creating new species?

I'm asking this same question in the Zoology Section of Science & Mathematics.

I've heard of fish hybrids; striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and white bass (Morone chrysops). I know they do it at the hatcheries. How about different species? Let's say a bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus) and a redear sunfish (Lepomis microlophus)? Or a bluegill sunfish and a black crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus)? Or a largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) and a smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieui)?

How about an Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus) and the Red-Bellied Piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri)? Would this combonation be possible at all? How?
