Does anyone else think that Hollywood should stop remaking classic horror movies?

Wes Craven is about to remake The Last House on the Left and all the other movies coming out this year, except the stretched out saw series, are pretty much remakes of earlier movies.

Yes...Definitely. Have you seen the new Friday the 13th? It's horrible...Freddy vs. Jason was very bad, too.

*However, Rob Zombie I heard made some good remakes on some old horrors..

Below answer.... Sorry..Just my opinion.. lol :) Of course it was awesome to se him kill people again...but...just the plot...and he seemed too humanized...Not the psycho undead jason we've know and love for so long..

    I hear you.

If they don't remake something then they just rip off good ideas and make bad wannabe versions (have you seen some of these Saw rip offs around? I'm not sure what's worse, the bad rip offs of a good movie or how they're milking Saw way too much, I mean really, a 6th movie? end it already!)

We need some new creative minds to make a good horror movie, not remake and ruin an old one, and not one that's laughable at best (One Missed Call, The Unborn, The Strangers, The Eye, etcetc).

Edit: Aw, I just saw the above answer about the Friday the 13th remake being horrible, you really think so? That's about the only remake I can say I thought was good, the midnight screening of it was fun too, everyone clapped and cheered when Jason killed people.. hah!

  • Hollywood players are always going to produce remakes, some are better some are worse, but most times they are more modernized so that younger generations see them (many would find older horrors very budget and bad acting therefore wouldn't bother hireing them).

House on the left is in my eyes the best ever horror movie (strangers up there, sequel on its way!) and although I know this remake won't be nearly as good as it I still believe younger viewers should get the chance to see another take on it.

For me personally I thought texas, hitcher and hills remakes were pretty decent and the more originality films like the wolf creeks and funny games have really just taken elements from earlier horror films as mentioned.

ps: I really think hollywood needs to stop with the asian horror remakes, really saturated last few years after the ring and grudge broke through.

I haven't seen any remake that I've liked. That's not to say it's a bad idea, someone(LIKE Wes Craven) could produce something excellent.

With the horror genre comes the b-movie sub-genre, these remakes will certainly fuel some future horror fan's collection. Think of the children!

  • Yes, it would be nice to see some original ideas. The Last House on the Left wasn't that good from the beginning. Have you seen it and heard the horribly cheeesy music in it, the old one? It's hilariously awful!

As long as people keep watching them, Hollywood will keep on making them. The remedy is in your hands folks.
