what rugby position should I play?

hi

well i play rugby a lot

and since i was about 8 ive played as a winger as i was always one of the fastest in my team

however recently now i am 14, i havent grown as much as most of the boy around me and I havent gotten faster whereas many others have

so in my last season i played winger in the c team and although it was a good fun season i didnt find it challenging enough

i think its time to change my position

a bcos i am a lot slower now compared to other wingers so i cant compete in the higher teams

b because i hav been doing a lot of weights but not a lot of running as i have less time for this...which means i am putting on a lot of weights in muscle but not gettin faster in fact probably gettin slower

i am not sure what position i shoudl take up///some have suggested centre or hooker to me

i am 5 foot 9 i weigh 68 kilos and can run the 100 in 14 seconds

my hands are very good and i am good under the high ball...although my kicking isnt great i can tackle well and have a good instep my strength is good for my size but as i say my speed will decrease as I get heavier unless i start to grow soon

Don't pay Scrum Half. this is for smaller people and who are play makers.

My suggestion is Outside centre, you are still reasonably fast and have a good instep which is perfect for outside. tackling is good in this position. Normally the scrum half or 5-8 kicks the ball down the Field. if you were fast enough you could run down the Field and tackle the full back.

as outside their is a lot of catching involved when the opposition kicks the ball down the Field. so your ability to catch the high ball will be helpful.

I wouldn't worry about growing and losing your speed. eventually you will catch up on both areas and you might be the biggest and fastest kid in your team

if you are saying your getting slower but your getting bigger, i recommend u play scrum half, because till being able to run the 100m in 14 secs is pretty fast and if u are only 5ft 9 it will help you improve in that position. Plus it will give you more of an experiance setting up attacks as a playmaker.

go for scrum half it sounds like you would play well there.

scrum half or half back. but there are soem exercises you can do to build up your speed, try running with a tyre tied round your waist, make sure if you are doing weights that you work on the backs of your legs as equally as the fronts, if you live near a beach try doing runnign exercises on the sand (think how hard it is to run on loose sand)

    Hope these help you

p.s speed has nothing ot do with weight look at jona lomu for example

Open side flanker number 7 because you don't have to kick but you have to tackle and as your working on strength because you need to rip/steal the ball and the best rugby players in the world are number 7 like martin Williams Wales and Richie macaw of newzeland

    Hooker

I recommend Winger, Centre or Full Back. All of these require speed which you obviously have and also strength. If you are quite strong and like the contact aspects, go for flanker or number 8. But if you want to score tries and be the last line of defense go for Full Back, Winger or Centre.

Hookers are now huge and are basically one of the front row forwards. Why not try scrum half.
