Where are the good bars and clubs in Birmingham?

Question

Some friends and I are going out in Birmingham in about a month,  none of us is local so we are booking a hotel.  Problem is that since none of us knows the city we aren't sure where to book our hotel so that we'll be close to good bars / pubs / clubs.

Can anyone give me a street name which I could aim to be near?

Well I'd go for Broad Street. Broad Street is a one road jam-packed with clubs, bars, casino's, strip clubs, a cinema, hotels & places to eat. Probably the most famous road in Birmingham for clubs.
