  • Excel macro to detect which tab has been selected?

I'm doing a bit of messing about in VB for a macro I'm making in Excel. Is there any way of detecting when a user has selected a sheet with the tabs on the bottom left in Excel 2007, and determining which tab they've selected? I hoping that there might be something like the Worksheet_SelectionChange event but for tabs!

  • Source for a Seneca the younger (4-65AD) quote?

I want to use a quote from the Roman philosopher Seneca in 61AD:

"As soon as I had gotten out of the heavy air of Rome and from the stink of smoky chimneys thereof, which, being stirred, poured forth whatever pestilential vapors and soot they had enclosed in them, I felt an alteration of my disposition"

but I can't find the source of the quote and think it's sloppy to quote him without knowing the source. Does anyone know where he said this, or how to go about finding out?

  • conditional SQL statement?

I'm making a database to keep a track of my dvds in access. I've got a working SQL query which looks up film names and returns the details of any dvds it finds, the query is linked to a form which displays the returned data, the code looks like this:

    Select * from films

    where flims.filmname like [forms]![searchform]![filmtitle];

The problem I'm having is that I also want to be optionally able to search by genre as well. As I want to make genre searching optional I cant just use an and clause, because the genre details box might be left empty in which case the query returns no rows. Is there any way to include an If statement in an SQL query, or another way to only include fields into which the user has entered data in the query?

  • Do i actually need a wireless router?

I got a new laptop with a 802.11n adaptor built in for xmas and I want to share my PC's wired internet connection with the laptop. What I want to do is just buy a compatible wifi USB dongle for my computer to make an ad-hoc network with the laptop and share files and the internet that way.

PC world insist that a USB wifi dongle can't transmit data and as such can't be used to do what I want, and that to share my internet connection I'll need a router.

Does anyone know enough about this to tell me if I can do what I want with a dongle, or if I really need to shell out the extra cash for a router?

  • How do I make a directory non-searchable with windows XP?

I store a lot of my personal information (bank details, insurance details, etc) in a hidden folder on my hard drive. The directory is well hidden but I've noticed that it can be found using the windows search function if you select the "include hidden files and folders" option.

Is there any way that I can make it so that files in this particular directory cannot be found by a search?

  • Is polyethylene flammable?

I'm looking to buy a gazebo it's safe to barbecue under. All the ones I've found are made from either polyester (which I know is flammable) or polyethylene. Gazebo needs to be flame retardant in order to comply with health and safety regulations!

If polyethylene isn't flammable a reference to go with your answer would be VERY helpful!

  • SQL conditional AND clause?

I'm trying to make an access database to keep a track of my DVDs (I've got quite a few!) I designed an SQL query to find films by name which worked fine, but i want to expand it now so I can also search by genre. I've come up with the following:

    SELECT Films.[Disc#], Films.FilmName, Films.Genre, Films.MediaType

    FROM Films

    WHERE Films.FilmName Like "*" & Forms![Main Display Form]!name & "*" And Films.Genre like Forms![Main Display Form]!genre

    ORDER BY Films.FilmName;

This works ok, but if you omit either a name or a genre on [main display form] it returns no rows. What I want is to use an IF statement to check and see if ![main display form]!name or ![main display form]!genre is null, and if so to ignore that section of the WHERE statement (if I've not entered a name then to search by genre only, and I've not entered a genre to search by name only)

I tried substituting the AND statement with an OR statement but that didn't produce the results I wanted!

Any help getting this working would be much appreciated!

  • Modern Warfare 2 "No Russian" mission (ethically)?

Has anyone figured out a way of completing the No Russian mission without shooting any civilians or police?

I can get through the main terminal building without shooting civilians but I get bogged down by the police outside and I can't see any way through without killing them...

  • How hard is it to fit a new CPU fan?

My current fan is far too loud and I want to install a quieter one but I'm not really sure how to go about it. Does anyone have any advice? Can I just buy any fan and have it clip on or do I have to find a fan which was specifically made for my processor? Is it a job that someone with a bit of knowledge (I'd classify myself as a mid level user) can do or would I have to get in a professional?

I have an AMD X2 Duel Core 5600+ Processor running at 3Ghz by the way if that's important...

  • How to reset the unlock code for a 6th gen iPod 80gb?

I bought a second hand 6th gen iPod 80gb, the volume has been limited and when i try to remove the limit it asks me for the unlock code. I'm guessing that it was the previous owner who set the code, but he doesn't remember doing so. I tried restoring factory settings, and a couple of obvious codes like 0000 and 1234 but no joy. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Where are the good bars and clubs in Birmingham?

Some friends and I are going out in Birmingham in about a month, none of us is local so we are booking a hotel. Problem is that since none of us knows the city we aren't sure where to book our hotel so that we'll be close to good bars / pubs / clubs.

Can anyone give me a street name which I could aim to be near?

  • The name for organisms whose sensory organs are close to their brain?

There's a specific term for organisms, like humans, who possess a significant number of their their sensory organs close to their brain. I was told what this was called in biology 101 during my first year as an undergraduate, but it's completely gone from my brain now. I think it's something like "Celephisation" but google brings up nothing when I try using that, or other permutations of that, as a keyword. Anyone got any ideas, it's been bugging me for about an hour now!

  • Quiet CPU fan?

I have a problem with my PC's CPU fan, it sounds like an aircraft taking off whenever the computer is on, so I want something quieter. My CPU is (and I'm quoting from the system properties bit on control panel) an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2.94Ghz 5600+. Is there any particular type of fan I should buy? What would information about the fan should show me that it is compatible with my system?

    Would something like:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&it...

    or:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&it...

    be suitable?

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Problems using Bittorrent accross university network?

I have used Azureus for a while now to download stuff (legitimate public domain stuff I might add.) Now I am at university there appears to be something blocking bittorrent use accross the network.

Whenever I try to dowload a torrent connections to peers always fail at the "Waiting for handshake" stage. I have tried dowloading better seeded torrents but it makes no difference. I have also tried changing the port bittorrent uses to see if that makes a difference, but that doesn't work either.

Any ideas how to get my downloads working? I know information about the unviersity's network would be helpful but unfortunately I have none!

  • My bonsai tree is dieing?

I was given a bonsai tree this christmas, I thought I was looking after it quite well (except at one point where it looked a bit dodgy, but i figured out it wasn't getting enough sunlight and moved it.) I am a student and I don't really have the right aparatus to submerge it in water, but i do water it every 2 days. Recently its leaves are changing colour and falling off, is this a symptom of the cold weather, or a sign that it's about to die? What can be done to save my tree?
