I'm thinking of buying an Oriental Frill. Does anyone know about these birds?

My husband and I met a breeder over the weekend who has Oriental frills. We'd never seen them before. We're considering buying one or two. I can't seem to find any info on the care of these birds, or if they'd make good pets. We have 3 young children, btw. Thanks in advance for any info or help!

Oriental Frill Pigeons make great pets. They are very charming looking. I once knew a man who bred racing pigeons, but kept a few pairs of Oriental Frills. When he would fly his racing pigeons, he brought along a couple of Oriental Frills to help tell the racers where to land. The Oriental Frills are easily noticeable.

They require just about the same care as any other pigeon. But they don't need special conditioning food (like racing pigeons do). Search online for pages on pigeon husbandry (there are plenty). You can also ask the breeder for advice. Please keep in mind that Oriental Frills do not have the honing instinct of racing/homing pigeons. If you release them, they most likely will not be able to fly their way back home.

If you're planning to buy the birds as pets, I would recommend purchasing two young birds. That way you can get them accustomed to humans from an early age. Older birds are more likely to be hesitant of humans.
