Freddie Mercury v Queen?
Do you think Freddie Mercury was bigger than Queen itself?
Do you think he would have made it without Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon?
My View:
Naturally the question is speculative. I think Freddie was always much bigger than the band right from the start , even though It widely accepted that the other members of the group in their own capacity and fields were world class international performers and recognised according. But Freddie made the difference of making Queen as just another band into one of all time legends and greats. He was the star.
He was also the driving force that ran almost all the facets of the band from the direction of the songs, production of videos right down the fine details of the sound of snare drums or the artwork on covers. But he would like his team members, the band and recording crew to provide some input.
Freddie Mercury did a spin off solo career in 1984 to release more diverse music; his earning netted approximately US$20 million just for the solo activities. The goals were not for commercial reason but to fulfil his desires to complete some of his works aside from Queen.
Freddie was a complete natural and born great, therefore whatever he avenues he pursued he would have been successful.

Freddie was destined to be great. He had a philosophy..."compromise is not in our vocabulary". The others were great at what they did, but I think Freddie was the driving force in Queen. He was a workaholic as far as his music went. I have listened to Queen religiously since 1974. One thing that always struck me were the harmonies...beautiful and right on. I knew Freddie did some of the backgrounds but what I didn't know for the longest time was he was responsible for probably 95% of the background and harmonies. That's why they blended together so perfectly. Not many singers are capable of harmonizing with themselves so masterfully, but it was something he was meticulous about.
Brian, Roger and John were all great at what they did. Let's face it. Great guitarists, drummers and bassist are a dime a dozen. Don't get me wrong! I love them all and I don't think Queen would have been Queen without those 4 members. Freddie was just so much in a league of his own, though. He was the driving force in Queen and that is what made the others so exceptional. He brought the best out of each of them. I said this just the other day...Brian played better earlier in his career than he does now, and they all wrote better songs. Why? They had a muse and his name was Freddie!

I think Freddie was bigger than the band, but he didn't want it that way. He even said in interviews that there was no leader, that they all four were equals in the band. Whether he liked it or not though, Freddie was the one thing that kept Queen in the spotlight.
Tough to say if he would have been as huge on his own. They were all in bands at some point before Queen, but as far as I know those bands were never big. I think Roger and Brian would have been session guys, maybe breaking out into something bigger. I would guess that Freddie would have made it, his talent is undeniable. I couldn't say for sure, but it would be a safe bet that Freddie would have gone on to big things without them. John Deacon probably would have been just fine never being in a band, he never really liked the spotlight anyways.

Yes! Freddie would have made it with or without Queen. Brian, John, and Roger.
Freddie was the type of entertainer you couldn't take your eye's of off once you started watching him.. His beautiful hair, eye's, and overall appearance.
They were perfect together .(The Band!). Yes in my thoughts Freddie was huge as an entertainer.. He was a "Kind Of Magic" .
I loved that they stayed together..But they have not been the same since Freddie's death. Also Freddie did not do as well when he went off solo .. To sing his old 1950 songs. Such as "The Great Pretender"
I think Freddie Mercury was just perfect for what he done on this earth. He had the talent, he had the look.
If you watched him preform in Live Aid, It seemed like Freddie was electric that day.. Look at the crowd.. That day was magic.
Like Mick Jaggar.. He's just perfect for what he does.
Great question...
John Deacon wrote many of the great hit's.
Source(s): The Freddie Mercury "Tribute" That was huge ... If Brian May, Roger Taylor, or John Deacon were to have died at the same time, and age as Freddie died.. I doubt that they would have received the Tribute, or the attention Freddie Mercury received. So I must rest my case on the Fact that Freddie was the driving force of Queen. Brian even mentioned in an interview that he had no idea how talented Freddie Mercury was when he mentioned he (Freddie) could be the lead singer, after the lead singer of their band at that time, Roger and Brian had a group called ?? I can't remember what the bands name was.. Freddie came in and blew everyone away with his voice. Brian told Freddie, Well, i guess we will have no band now" freddie said, Oh I'll sing for you". "Don't quit the band, I'll be your lead singer". Brian said "Yeah a ok". In a very doubtful way. Then Brian said, Wow .. I was really surprised, when I heard Freddie sing" - 1 decade ago
That's a tough question and also a good one.
Freddie had undeniable talent. Perfect showman and the best frontman of all time in concert. Now Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon (underrated beyond belief) were good musicians but if they hadn't found Freddie then would they be still around as a band?
I would put my money on that they would all be session musicians if Freddie wasn't in the picture and Freddie would have appeard on stage/broadway, if not having a solo career.
So, I would say Freddie was bigger than Queen itself.

Queen WAS Freddie!
I don't think they would have ever made it without him.
I do believe though, that Freddie would have made it one way or another, even if he hadn't met Brian or Roger.
Freddie was born a star with a huge talent as a musician and as a performer too!
I'm sure if he was still around, either still with Queen or on a solo career, in rock, sound tracks or whatever else, Freddie would still be creative and successful !

Freddie was not bigger without Queen. In fact I think the rest are doing great without him. He was one of the best things to happen to Rock or Music. I think without Queen he wouldn't have made it though. He was very good but being in a band just helped him. Music only is so much with out those who help make it work. Roger and Brian helped co write many of the songs and helped him greatly.

Good question.. Yes I think Freddie Mercury was bigger than Queen.
Yes I think Freddie would have made it without Brian, Roger, and John.
How lucky were those guy's?... They would have never made it or even been known about without the notoriety of Freddie. I'm sorry, but Freddie was such a jewel a diamond ..
Anyone around him was very lucky..

Freddie was bigger than Queen, but he would not have made it without them. Queen was talented all the way around and that made the band who they were. They needed each other.

To me Freddie was Queen. ( meaning , I will accept no other front man . )
However, to totally contradict myself, there could have been no Queen without the fab four. I think it took all four to come together to make such dynamic and influential music.
