I have decided to only answer questions pertaining to Queen, and that I'm not here to make friends, so yeah.

  • R&P: Popping in for some suggestions on the Counting Crows?

First off, hi to anyone that remembers. Just thought good old yahoo answers might be of some help here.

I'd love a starting point to jump into the Counting Crows. I know nothing about them outside of Mr. Jones and Big Yellow Taxi, but I do like the sound and the style and the general nostalgia of them. I was hoping someone here is a fan and could lead me in a general direction to start.

Not thinking albums so much, but a few songs that are can't miss ones by the group.

  • How to run television sound through surround sound system?

I have a Panasonic home entertainment system and I am trying to run the sound from a LG Plasma set through the surround sound speakers. I tried putting the cables from the Audio out ports on the TV to every port on the DVD receiver but none of them work. I get a faint buzz through the speakers when I set the receiver to TV and run the cables from the TV IN ports, but no sound comes through.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is it difficult to have a beagle as an inside dog?

I'm looking to get a dog to primarily stay indoors, and I was wondering if a beagle is too much work for that. I have had 3 beagles in my lifetime, but they have all stayed outside, and 2 of them were hunting dogs. I haven't had the experience of keeping one indoors and I was hoping someone may have done it and hopefully can give me some info.

Also, since I know it may be difficult because beagles love the outdoors, what other types of dogs would make good house pets. Nothing to frilly, but maybe a beagle type dog that could do well inside.

    Thanks

  • R&P: Most ironic lines that a singer has ever sung?

Maybe they didn't write it or maybe they did write it and the lines ended up being completely ironic at a later date.

    For example...

    My Girl - The Temptations

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltRwmgYEUr8

David Ruffin sang lead on the song which was written by Smokey Robinson. The line "I don't need no money, fortune or fame. I got all the riches one man can claim" is ironic, because David Ruffin was kicked out of The Temptations because he wanted the name changed to David Ruffin and The Temptations (Like Diana Ross did with The Supremes). The name change would have also resulted in a greater royalty check to Mr. Ruffin, and much, much more fame.

Anyways, after a stupidly long example, let's hear yours.

  • R&P: Care to share me your favorite songs/bands from the 60's?

I like the simplicity of the music. No one was dancing around in crazy costumes or playing their instruments too loud. I love the focus on good vocals and clean, easy playing. It is relaxing. So, share with me your favorites from that era if you would be so kind.

Not sure if any of you are basketball fans, but LeBron James just took a dump on the city of Cleveland and went totally against his word and promises of a championship.

Anyways, have some songs for either.

    A) Being betrayed

    or

    B) Hating everything about a certain person

Can you give me some songs about America. Preferably something positive, I don't really care to hear the "down with the man" stuff or bands whining about politics. Maybe something patriotic or American related.

  • R&P: I need some serious love songs?

Hello, just your resident douchebag here = P

In all seriousness though, I need some help. I'm looking for some love songs. Not the cheesy, bubblegum kind of stuff either. I'm looking for more raw emotion in the song, something that really says "I Love You". The kind of song you can play for someone to let them know how you feel, without actually having to say anything at all.

Preferably no metal, but anything from classic to modern rock and pop will be excellent.

  • R&P: Who were/are the best vocalist/guitarist combos ever?

Another question brought on by YouTube. I was watching a clip from a Journey concert, and it got me thinking. Which bands had the best pairings of vocalist and guitarists.

If people still don't understand, here are a few examples I came up with, you can use them and expand or add your own if you like, I'm just curious.

    Freddie Mercury/Brian May

    Robert Plant/Jimmy Page

    Roger Daltry/Pete Townshend

    Steve Perry/Neal Schon

  • R&P: Can you give me some songs that you think would be better if done by another band?

I don't mean covers either. I mean, think of a song, any song, and then try to think if it would be better if someone else had done it. Kind of think of it like they did with MoTown. Smokey Robinson wrote A TON of songs, and he even recorded them, but The Temptations did quite a few of them too, recorded them, and had way more success. If you want an example, Smokey did My Girl, but I don't think anyone owns that recording.

Anyways, after rambling, I was listening to Changes by David Bowie, and all I could think is that Bob Dylan would have done that song so much better. It would have been slowed down obviously, but it fits his style perfectly and I think he could have made that a better song.

    Any come to mind?

  • R&P: Here's one for you metalheads?

Alright, this is a genuine question, let's not get anyone getting all angry for no reason.

Someone decided to put a Justin Beiber set to metal music, and I want to know what makes this different than other metal songs. Still has the breakdowns, the distortion, the metal aspects, just Justin Beiber singing. I'm curious to see explanations as to why or why not this is any different from any other metal song.

  • R&P: What makes any of you think you know anything about music?

I'll just be straight to the point here.

Everyone on here seems to think they are an expert on music. Be it judging someone's music taste, "experts" on certain music genres, or holding oneself above the others because of the music you listen to.

Why though? I really would love to know. Why exactly do you think you have the right to call someone ignorant because they only listen to one genre of music? What makes anyone think they know a damn thing about music, just because they listen to a lot of songs? I can understand knowing a lot about a band, but what I would like to know is, how exactly did it get into your head that you are an expert on music?

  • R&P: Who, in your opinion, is/was Rock and Roll's greatest frontman/singer?

This can be past, present or even someone you think has some serious potential that hasn't made it big yet. I think it is obvious who my pick is, but I want to hear more opinions, because I get curious. Take into effect stage presence, vocal ability, charisma, and overall quality.

    Links are fantastic.

Also, if you have a microphone, answer this question, because it is really cool, and I'm kind of interested in what some of you sound like, in a totally non creepy way. = P

  • R&P: Will Smokey Robinson be remembered as an artist, or a songwriter?

I've been listening to a Temptations vinyl I got for Valentines Day. Yes, you read that right. Most people get chocolates and a card, my girlfriend got me vinyls. How amazing is that?. Anyways, while looking at the album, I saw that most if not all of the songs were written by Smokey Robinson, and I got to wondering if he is more famous for his songwriting, rather than his work with The Miracles.

Here are a few famous Smokey Robinson songs:

    I Second That Emotion

    My Girl

    Get Ready

The Way You Do The Things You Do

  • R&P: Let's hide Queen's Greatest Hits CD, and really listen to them?

It seems when you mention Queen on here, you get the same songs, and the lists look just like the back of the Greatest Hits.

    Imagine - John Lennon

    My Generation - The Who

    My Girl - The Temptations

We Are The Champions - Queen
