Is it difficult to have a beagle as an inside dog?

I'm looking to get a dog to primarily stay indoors, and I was wondering if a beagle is too much work for that. I have had 3 beagles in my lifetime, but they have all stayed outside, and 2 of them were hunting dogs. I haven't had the experience of keeping one indoors and I was hoping someone may have done it and hopefully can give me some info.

Also, since I know it may be difficult because beagles love the outdoors, what other types of dogs would make good house pets. Nothing to frilly, but maybe a beagle type dog that could do well inside.

Thanks

I have an inside beagle. She does well but you have to be able to let them out in the yard often to get some exercise and give them frequent walks. My beagle will dart if you leave the door open though but she's a great dog. With a little bit of training a beagle can be a wonderful inside dog. If you don't mind a beagle howl!

    Hope I could help!

Well, any dog can be trained to be an inside dog, though some may like the out doors more than others. Most likely a hunting dog will always follow it's hunting instinct and therefore love being out doors. I would recommend a schnauzer(probably because i have one) he is very playful, and he is an inside dog,but as long as you take him for a good walk they will be fine... i am not sure if the problem is the love of the out doors but i did look up some dogs that require low exercise demands, maybe you'll find one you like

I have a beagle mix that stays indoors with no problem

The only problem with many beagles if not exercised they tend to get fat and if they get bored they bark allot.

I have 3 inside beagles and I love them. I also have a backyard where they can run around in and they're fine. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

it sounds like you are looking for a dog

    that doesn't need much exercise.

I would not buy a beagle then.

they need exercise and they also have a strong

    hunting drive.

if you mean a different kind of hound with "beagle types of dog",

i can not think of one that wants to be a lap dog.

Why don't you buy a some Toy breed?

    Maybe a little Spaniel?

Im sure it would do fine indoors. As long as it gets long walks each day or the occasional outing im sure itll be happy.
