R&P: Who, in your opinion, is/was Rock and Roll's greatest frontman/singer?
This can be past, present or even someone you think has some serious potential that hasn't made it big yet. I think it is obvious who my pick is, but I want to hear more opinions, because I get curious. Take into effect stage presence, vocal ability, charisma, and overall quality.
Links are fantastic.
Also, if you have a microphone, answer this question, because it is really cool, and I'm kind of interested in what some of you sound like, in a totally non creepy way. = P

For me, it's Robert Plant. I love his expressiveness.

This one is very dark but I put it in because he talks so much in the beginning. When it gets to the song, this video is better (same performance).

Good question. Excuse me while I ramble a bit :)
My answer is probably cliche, but you know what, I don't think many people in R&P give the man much respect anyway.
For me it's a toss up between Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley, but then I remember that Elvis influenced every frontman that came after him....including Freddie Mercury and Jimi Hendrix.
It amazes me because Elvis was just a simple small town white boy from the South....and he set the world alight and brought the 1950s alive. It was Elvis who brought cultures together and broke down barriers, Elvis pretty much brought "black" music into "white" middle class american households. It was his popularity that made people listen to Little Richard, Chuck Berry etc.
The whole conservative America of the 1950s was destroyed when Elvis burst upon the scene.
Back in his prime, when he was creating all the controversy.

But if I had to choose a frontman who was consistently great for a long period, Freddie Mercury while he was alive captivated crowds more than any other frontman. Mick Jagger is probably the best living frontman since Freddie died.

My answer would most definitely be Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury.
But who can forget Robert Daltrey from The Who?! Their performances were so energetic and gave off the vibe of "what you see is what you get".
And Robert Smith from The Cure! His voice was just so unique and deep!

Zack de la Rocha (of Rage Against the Machine), easily the most passionate and a great rapper, or Kurt Cobain.

Henry Rollins (not the greatest singer but the guy has the ******* most kickass attitude ever.)
Glenn Danzig
Roger Daultry
Iggy Pop

My favourites, obviously because of their ability, but because of their energy and vibe and costumes (everything about them really)
-Mick Jagger
-Jimi Hendrix
-Robert Plant
-David Bowie (who could forget Ziggy Stardust)
-Johnny Rotten (ok he isn't the greatest of singers but he's such a performer, so quirky, funny and charismatic)

I love Matt Bellamy and all, but the greatest has got to be Freddie Mercury.
