R&P: Most ironic lines that a singer has ever sung?

Maybe they didn't write it or maybe they did write it and the lines ended up being completely ironic at a later date.

For example...

My Girl - The Temptations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltRwmgYEUr8

David Ruffin sang lead on the song which was written by Smokey Robinson. The line "I don't need no money, fortune or fame. I got all the riches one man can claim" is ironic, because David Ruffin was kicked out of The Temptations because he wanted the name changed to David Ruffin and The Temptations (Like Diana Ross did with The Supremes). The name change would have also resulted in a greater royalty check to Mr. Ruffin, and much, much more fame.

Anyways, after a stupidly long example, let's hear yours.

Hope I die before I get old from My Generation!

Pete wrote the line,Roger sang it and Moon lived it(He died at the age of 31)!

Here's another irony(I know it's not a line from a song):On the Who Are You album cover,Keith Moon is sitting on a chair marked "Not to be taken away"

We Can Work It Out-The Beatles just for the whole lyrical gist of the song because in the end The Beatles(John and Paul especially)couldn't work it out!

You have Paul on the verses singing "Try and see it my way"and you have John on the counterverse singing "Life is always short and there's no time for fussing and fighting" and what makes those lines of Lennon's especially ironic is that within 4 years of them being written,The Beatles were breaking up and within a decade and a half of them being written,Lennon was killed!

Too Much Love Will Kill You - Freddie Mercury

Actually, come to think of it, so is the song Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin. She sang it just three days before she died and the song is asking God to get her a Mercedes Benz because she feels she deserves it and that He should automatically give it to her.

In the song "Come Together" by the Beatles, John Lennon says "Shoot me" repeatedly in the beginning.

In 1980 John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman ((I have a special nickname for him, but I shouldn't say it on the internet)).

Anyway, I think it's kind of ironic in a horrible sad way.

    I miss John Lennon! :(

'Happiness is a warm gun' kind of is ironic, since John Lennon was supposed to be all for peace and such..

Elvis Costello - "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding"

An inebriated Costello once called James Brown a "jive-a*s n*gger" and Ray Charles a "blind, ignorant n*gger."

    Like a Virgin - Madonna

    The irony is pretty obvious.

Just about every line in "Ironic" by Alanis Morriset. Its ironic that she doesn't know what irony means.
