Huevo's band of the day?
Although they are nowhere near obscure and even had a radio hit with Novacaine For The Soul, Eels are not mentioned anywhere near enough on here IMO. Started by Mark Everett, or simply E, their debut album Beautiful Freak was released in 1996 and ,like their other five studio albums, serves as a diary of the tragedies that have occured in E's life.
Here's some clips from their catalog.

Happy Tuesday to you Darth!
LOL James, I'm right there with you. I have no clue how the Pussycat Dolls ever got a contract.
Hey Rckets, good to see you.
Definitely man, with Road Trip being the most obvious of all. He also put songs in all 3 Shreks and I know there's a handful more where they appear in. Love Mr. E's Beautiful Blues, it has one of my favorite lines in 'The load on the road brings a tear to the indian's eye.' Ah, if we could just bring back all the old PSA's.

Love the Eels - but it definitely takes a certain reminiscent mood to be in to really get into it... might just be me.
My favorite might actually be their double album Blinking Lights... My friends, who are also fans of the band, have put it down, saying that it's overlong and lacks a structure, or that if you've heard one Eels album, you've heard them all. I disagree...
I've said this elsewhere before, but it's how I really feel about the album. It's like sitting down with a shoebox full of old photos, rather than having them neatly organized and glued into an album. You pull out a photo and it sparks a memory, of childhood, of lost love, etc. All of them are out of order, thrown into the box. You pull out a picture of your friend's wedding, then your first day of school, then your dormmates in college. I think it's stronger for this quality, rather than being hampered by it.
One of my favorites from that album -

Anyway - I don't think I've been around for some of your band's of the day recently, but great share, man.

Hey Huevo - Happy Friday! I Decided to be a participant in today's "Band of the Day" hehe :-D Beat Happening just blew my mind! I like Johnson's voice. And that's a pretty interesting story regarding the ashtray mishap, and all

Hey Huevo
I've always been intrigued by some of these alternative bands from the 90's that struck gold right out of the box, then never really got much in terms of a second chance but all the while continue to toll in obscurity. Nada Surf is another group that has almost an identical story with Eels These guys have always ranked well above average in my book in terms of bands that I don't go out of my way to purchase but always enjoy hearing on radio as something different. At least we can all take solace in knowing the man named E made decent coin off Mr. E's Beautiful Blues. Is it just me or does that song seem to get used in like every freaking soundtrack?
BA - tie between Skinny Puppy & Cranes.
From now on, I'll be the man named R.

Aye, Eels are definitely very talented and not mentioned here enough. I love "Jeannie's Diary"; I'm glad you included it. I need to listen to them more; they are always one of those bands I love, forget about for a while until someone mentions them, and then can't remember why I haven't listened to them for the longest time. Thanks, Huevo!

Eels are great, they definitely deserve more mentions around here. I haven't heard all their albums yet but Electro-Shock Blues is probably my favorite one that I heard so far, it's brilliant.

Giving them a listen right now Eggman, and Happy Tuesday!
So far while not exactly the style of music I am accustomed to they're still not bad.
*Edit*
Thing The Grandchildren Should Know was easily My clear favorite, that's a really good song. Thanks Huevo.

Hey Huevo. I liked them, they were enjoyable but I also wasn't really crazy about them. Nice songs, the first and last ones were my favorite out of them all.
