I've added a NEW Alternate Email Address to My Yahoo Acct. & I'm Being Asked to Verify it - BUT it's NOT ...?

I just added a NEW Alternate Email Address to my Yahoo.com Account, & when I clicked on the "Verify" Email button to have the email sent to me in order to verify it, -- I was advised that an "Email would be sent to me at this NEW EMAIL ADDRESS." BUT! It won't allow me to sign in under the NEW USER ID EMAIL ADDRESS ID.

Am I doing this correctly? I'm signing out of my regular Yahoo.com Email address, & then trying to sign-in with this NEW one. Then I'm receiving the message that this NEW USER ID isn't TAKEN. I know it is because I've been using it for almost a year, but just haven't used the EMAIL with it before.

So here are the steps I've taken:

1. Logged into Yahoo.com under OLD Email Address

2. Signed-Out of OLD Email Address

3. Tried Signing-In Under NEW User ID Email Address

** Always getting message "NEW" User ID Isn't Taken/Is Available **

I do hope I have explained this clearly in order that y'all can help me. I know I sound like a computer novice, which I most definitely am not...lol! I just can't seem to get my brain working today...;~).

Thanks so much for any help, & if any additional information is needed just let me know! Thanks so much in advance!!

    If you don't sign in your yahoo! Mail for more than 4 months, it will get deactivated even if you sign in other Yahoo! services. However, you should be able to REACTIVATE it. Deactivation means you lose your previous stored data.

    So, are you able to sign in other Yahoo! services (e.g. Yahoo! Messenger or Answers) using that ID and password of that email that you get the message "this new user ID isn't taken" when trying to use it to sign in your Mail?

    <Edit>

    I hope I clarified it well, the message "This new user ID...." means the ID you're trying to sign-in with does not exist. Are you able to use it to sign-in any other service?

    I don't ask for a raise because I know that the company is already struggling, I would probably get the raise but then my boss might be resentful of having to do it sooner then he was comfortable. when times got tough the people who didn't give a crap about the company were the ones who wound up jobless as well as people who were high paid but whos jobs others could do for less money (which os basically ANY job). I work very hard and make good money for the company, I will get a raise when the company can afford it I am completely sure of that. I am also not grossly UNDERpaid either which makes it easier to hold off on raises. I have not had a raise in 5 years but I have had a job while many have not. and I have not had a pay cut where as many company's cut employees pay.I like job security.

    You know, I had a similar problem this week. I got the Verify email and when I went to Verify, it totally disappeared. Not in my Inbox, not in my Sent Box, not in my Spam. Poof! It's gone and I can't get in either!
