    nausea by jean paul sartre is a good book if your looking into existentialism.

  • Existentialism pre-dates Sartre and Heidegger (and Nietzsche and other 19th or 20th century philosophers). There have been Muslim, Christian and Hindu Existentialists before that. Try Mulla Sadra (1571-1636). And from Mulla Sadra......

    "Wisdom of the Throne: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Mulla Sadra" by James Morris:

    and ........

    The Act of Being" by Christian Jambet:

    .......just follow the PDF links to get to the full books

    Poems:

    ~~~~~~~~~Life brought me so I came~~~~~~~~~
    "The life brought me so I came; the death takes me away so I go
    Neither I came on my own nor I go with my will
    There may be a few gamblers as bad as I am
    Whatever move I made it proved to be very bad
    It’s better that one should not get hooked to the charms of the world
    However, what one can do when nothing can be accomplished without getting involved
    Who’s come to the rescue of someone who’s about to leave this world!
    You too keep moving till you can move on
    O Zauq! I’m leaving this garden with a pinning for fresh air
    Why should I care now whether zephyr blows or not!"
    ~Zauq [aka Sheikh Mohammed Ibrahim (1789-1854) ] ..... court poet of Bahadur Shah Zafar. 'Zauq' was his pen-name**
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    'A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
    "The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."'
    ~ Stephen Crane (1871-1900)
    Hope this is of some interest and help.
    Best wishes.
    I don't know about poets, but try out Friedrich Nietzsche, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre. All wrote books pertaining to existentialism.
    It's all about accepting that there is no god and deriving meaning from your own existence, the movement is a constant study of human pleasures and morality and the search for the truth about them. The verdict for years has been, pleasures are best enjoyed in moderation because if you over-indulge they will destroy you, and that if you don't treat people in a civilized and respectful manner then you will ultimately be the victim of you're own misdeeds.
    I was thrown out of college for cheating on the metaphysics exam; I looked into the soul of the boy sitting next to me.
