Why do people not understand the clear and simple intentions of the Constitution and seek to reinterpret it?

Most people have not spent much time reading it, researching constitutional law or the contemporary history of the constitution. That's why.
This is true for people on the Left and the Right. A lot of people THINK they know what the constitution says and that they understand the implications of its various provisions... many are wrong about that.

Because there will ever be an irresolvable tension between the need for people to be free from government and the need for the government to protect the society.
And because the constitution is not a legal code set forth to end all disputes, but a code for all political actions to adhere to.
And like slavery, there were built in conflicts like the checks and balances. And societies change what de Tocqueville describes as "social mores" and that changes law and. So does technology. And what looked downright revolutionary in 1789 looks rather quaint in 2009.

Many want to ignore it or because they do not agree with it want to make it not as important and as power full as it is.
It is part of the revisionist history writers. Write it till it says what they believe it should say.

Most politicians are power hungry. In order to gain more power they need to weaken the Constitution. To get the public to support them they pay them off with "gifts". A rather patriotic crew we have had in Washington the past 60 years or so. Don't you think?

The government is supposed to represent us the ppl and we have forgotten that because we have let the ppl we elected bully us into believing what they are doing for us the right thing.

They have their own agenda and want their rights, wants, instead a policy for all of the people, they want rights for themselves instead

That is the fatal flaw of Liberalism -- they believe it is a "living, breathing document" but it is NOT.
