McCain couldn't win the election no matter what he proposed. The big problem that McCain has is that he is part of the same old republican gang that has been over growing the government for years. The conservatives want someone to actually be conservative, not like george bush's big government republican party. Liberals aren't going to vote for a republican liberal when they can vote for a full blown liberal democrat. Therefore, the republican base wouldn't zealously support McCain and Liberals voted for obama.
I dont think McCain could win no matter what he did. he had no base support and until the republicans move back to conservatism, they will enjoy the same lack of support in future elections.

Are you kidding? It was idiotic, and every economist worth their salt agreed. It would have cannibalized infrastructure investment to provide menial and short-lived relief, thereby driving demand, and thus prices, up over the intermediate- and long-run. It was a blatant pander, and was completely unbecoming of Senator McCain.
Seriously - do you really think the way to cure a junkie is to take a buck off the price of their next 8-ball?!

Yea. It went over as well as McCain's photo-op in Iraq that endangered US soldiers.
