I'm curious about how dirty your computer might have been before you "cleaned" it. If it was really dirty especially the processor heat sink and fan, it is possible that you have overheated the processor and caused the thermal compound (put between the processor and the heatsink to ensure a good thermal bond) to create an air gap. Once that happens, the processor can overheat and then shut down the computer. It might be even just enough so that when you start running multiple programs it overheats the processor. Use a good compound (I.e Artic Silver) and use it sparingly, only about the size of a small pea. Once you complete that, run "Prime 95" (google it) as a torture test for your processor. If it is going to overheat your system it will happen using Prime 95 (looks for new prime numbers) I feel pretty confident that this will resolve your issue.

Have you actually done several reformats? Or were you merely doing system restores?

If it was software related then a reformat would solve it, as anything that shouldn't be on your computer would be gone. It is normal to have several dozen processes running at any given time, these are used by various applications and by your system and many are integral to the normal operation of Windows.

Anyways, do a real reformat where the disk is wiped clean by formatting it, then reinstalling Windows. If you did in fact do this several times, then it is possible that your CPU is shot, thought that isn't overly likely since it is working fine. If it was broken and wasting all of its power, I doubt it would remain functional or usable.

If it's not software related, I really don't know what could cause your CPU to do that. Perhaps a corrupted BIOS.
