Because the Democratic Party thinks that trying policies that have failed miserably in other Countries will some how make life better for everyone here. They fail to see that even Canada is allowing private health insurance again, the 10% unemployment in most of Europe prior to this financial mess. All they see is that the "rich" aka any one making too much money to get hand outs have to pay for everyone else.
