This guy let his little girls freeze to death.?

I think this could be an issue of government control. In a way I believe that he should pay for his negligence by going to jail. Prisons are there for a reason. If he didn't go to prison he may not learn from his mistakes. Prison is a form of punishment that has been used by society for generations. Having your own native people's discipline you for a crime could help, but its not likely he would be punished correctly depending upon how they do it. Jail is the right way to punish this person in this situation. Sure he feels guilty about it which he should, but he needs to learn a real lesson. You want to keep individuals from making poor choices again in the future. So I believe going to jail like a criminal should is the right way.

I think they need to put the guy in jail.
I mean if a white person or even a black person did this they would be sent to prison so fast it would make your head spin. The fact is that a little child is dead because of one parent’s act of discipline that got out of control and turned into abuse. Just because he’s Native doesn't mean that he should get a get out of jail free card on this one.

Reservations are governed under their own rules., and laws. Quite frankly this is not what I felt should have happened to him.
Makes me sick to my stomach to read something like that, what a horrible way to die. Another Angel has gone home to a better place....
edit: for the record I was born in Canada and am (Algonquin/Arapaho/Chippewa)..
thank you

My opinion - the aboriginal elders in that so-called sentencing circle should have their children taken away by social services, and raised by sane people; secondly, the s.o.b. drunk Aborigine that let his daughters freeze to death should be hung by a rope until he's dead, and he should be left hanging so the other tribe's drunks have a chance to take the lesson to heart.

Being "Native" is no excuse for child abuse...and that is what that was!!! He should not be allowed to get off like that scot free. Send his butt to jail.
