My mechanic told me to get a new radiator cap cuz mine was rotting and so I did but....?
when I went to go get it they asked me if it was carb or fuel injected. I had no clue so he just picked on and it doesn't seem to get that tight fit like the last one did. What is the difference between the two caps? My car is still running hot after 5 minutes.

Simply take the old cap into your auto supply outlet and have them match it up along with the year and make of vehicle.

Most likely the cap and running hot after 5 minutes are un-related..but get the correct cap from a reputable parts store...No employee of mine would get away with giving out something that MIGHT FIT!

sounds like to me you need to take your cars some where else before more than that be wrong.
